Garbage Trucks

We do garbage trucks start their day so early? There are three or four companies picking up garbage on my street. One arrived at 6:06 AM today, and another was here at 6:12. Nothing on the street makes as much noise than these things, and I doubt many people are awake at such an early hour - not until the trucks arrive, that is.

Just in case they have to unload the trucks an extra time or depending on how much trash there is to be picked up on the day's run?

The same situation with residential trash collection use to exist here in Gwinnett County, GA with 5 or more trucks in neighborhoods all week long. Complaints reached a a point that the county came up with a plan and took over the planing of trash collection. The county was divided into territories with just one private company collecting in that area. They cannot start before the 7:00 AM. Containers were standardized for both trash and recycling. The trash truck uses a large claw to pick up and dump the container. Just one driver and he never has to get out of the truck. We pay for trash collection as a separate item on our county taxes.

Fuss at your city council or government body. Here there is a noise ordinance saying no noise before 7:30. Then all the lawnmowers spring to life.

Guys start their day so the dump just opens when the truck is ready to be emptied. They have a large amount of trash to pick up but have to work around the dump hours. The dump hours are usually 8 to 5 so there ya go. If the trash isn't picked up people complain. Once a week your beauty sleep is interrupted. My trash guy comes about 11:30 am. I don't live at the beginning of the route. Isn't there something more important to complain about?

They come so early as to miss a lot of the early commute and school traffic.

Well Jerry, some people like to get done before the hottest parts of the day, but the most important is there is less traffic early in the morning!!!

Luckily I live in a private community on 3300 acres and our garbage collection is done near the front.
No garbage trucks roam our streets ever...and boy I sure don't miss them.

They were here this morning at 6:45, while I was trying to get my beauty sleep. I looked in the mirror and saw that it didn't work.

I have more of a problem with the birds who start chirping at 4:30 AM this time of year when I’m trying to settle back in after my bathroom trip😳

Those school buses are a nuisance. I kick myself for choosing the wrong time to drive. Have you ever noticed that when a school bus is in front of you, it goes slow, but when it's behind you, it wants to go faster than you're driving?

Solution:

Live and work on a farm. You're not required to commute anywhere. You're right at your workplace when you get up. And you get up before sunrise so you generally beat the garbage trucks and school buses. Your tractors make more noise than they do, so you don't notice them. No need to go to the gym, you get your exercise at work. At the end of a 15 hour day you are tired enough to sleep through anything.
