I have been using pse 14 for years. I tried opening it earlier today and it said I had to sign in. I never had to do that before. I tried signing in but was informed my email and/or password weren't any good and to update the password. Did that but still wouldn't take it. I went to adobe's website - help center and got hold of somebody I could chat with and he told me that adobe doesn't support 14 any more and I will have to purchase the current version of pse or subscribe to photoshop and/or lightroom. That's not going to happen.
Does anybody have a recommendation for a photo editing program? I would appreciate the information.
Thank you.

What brand computer do you have? I have a Dell that I refurbished and updated. Dell has an application that wants to run periodically and keep my computer "tuned up and running at its best." It's really a pretty good package, and much of what it does is beneficial. But one of its steps is to disable or remove old software that it thinks is no longer compatible with Windows or that it thinks might be harmful to my system. Once I figured out what it was doing and stopped allowing it to run, several little mysterious problems that I had been experiencing went away. I can accomplish the beneficial functions that it performed in a different way.

Gene, you hit the nail on the head. If Adobe, Apple and Alphabet are "screwing" the public and getting rich, then just pay them, but buy some of their stock and you too can enjoy the ride... The Companies have opened a new world for us, so let's appreciate their success. They are not the Federal Government who is only spending YOUR money.

How are they spending the money people give them?

So, Adobe has made you upset because they don't support 14.

Now, you going to buy & pay for another software you must learn all over again.. because you don't want to buy and pay for the new version of PSE which you use to "LOVE" and fully understand how it work.......... Hmmm

I guess that will work. YES, I know there is "Free" stuff out there if that is what you wish to do...

To each his own I guess... As always, everyone here is entitled to their opinion and I will leave it at that.

Best of luck

I wanted to keep using windows XP.

You're using 14 year old software.

What's the problem? Upgrade or find a cracked version. I've got the entire Adobe CS6 Suite on a disc.... I still pay for up to date software.

Happens to me all the time! A password I've used awhile all of a sudden becomes "obsolete". Says I need to add a capital, a number, more than 8 items, a non-letter, non-number icon, etc. Also, none of my older flash drives will show the photos I've stored on them. Windows wants me to subscribe to 365 to open them; problem is, I've BEEN subscribed to Windows 365 for 3 years, & now, I have to add a subscription to my current subscription, just to open a flash drive?!?

Capture One is ok, one price/one time. Product support is fair. Lot's of tutorials, some good, some a waste of time.

I think the OP can still use PSE 14. I still use Windows XP from time to time as well as DOS. I also use Windows 95 and Windows NT 4.0 sometimes but not as often as XP or DOS.

I would suggest staying with PSE. If you have not updated or upgraded since PSE 14, go for the current PSE 2021. It is stand alone and you need not use the cloud. Check to see if you can get it discounted as an upgrade from 14. Even at full price you would only be paying about $15 per year if you keep it as long as you used 14. Not a bad deal really.

I tend to agree with those who lay the sign-in problem for your PSE on Microsoft. I still run Windows 7 Home Premium as my OS and currently use PSE 10 as my primary photo editing program and have yet been requested to sign-in to access the program.

Another vote for Affinity Photo. Lot's of good tutorials. Similar in functionality to PS.
One time purchase - $50, or wait for a sale. No charge for updates.
I liked it so much I also got Affinity Publisher and got rid of MS Publisher.

I used PhotoShop Elements 12 for a few years and hated it. I replaced it with Corel PaintShop Pro (latest is now 2021) and never looked back. It is a lot easier to use and is full-featured, although both have a learning curve. Buy it at a discount and you own it, no subscription.

Remember when you had an SLR film camera and you where forced to spend $10 every 36 exposures for film and developing? If you did not your were locked out of using that camera?

Do you really expect a company to provide free lifetime support on a $70 software product? That's their way of weaning users off of old obsolete software. After all, they own the rights and you only purchased the permission to use their property.

Perhaps not lifetime support. But if I pay for (non-subscription based) software, I absolutely do expect to be able to use it as long as I still have the required hardware and operating system to run it - with no expiration date, either programmed into the software or induced sometime later by the company through online connection.
