With either Canon, which are great cameras, they are big, and you will be very conspicuous. I shoot street and use fuji Xe series cameras with the fuji 27mm lens. I carry the camera on a wrist strap, and it makes for an excellent street camera.

True. Even if the final choice is a 6DII, a wrist strap and a 40mm pancake would be a way to minimize the conspicuous nature of an SLR.

If a FF SLR is needed due to other uses, it might even be worth the minor size increase of the 5DIV. The double pixel count plus the 40mm allows shooting without raising the camera, which tends to require some cropping, depending on what style of “street” is adopted.

Thanks

5DIV without hesitation.

I had a 6d2 and a 7d2 until about a month ago when I got the opportunity to purchase a used 5d4 got a good price. Faced with the opportunity to go with the better focusing system of the 5d4, the only thing that gave me cause to not make the move was the flippy screen. I bought the 5d4 and really enjoy it, the AF is definitely better as is results at higher ISOs. However, I sure wish it had that articulating screen. Did you consider an EOS R or R6?

For the price I'm not sure why you wouldn't consider the R6. It has better low light performance, unbelievable eye tracking for humans and animals and in-body image stabilization just to mention a few advantages. I it has a bigger buffer size as well. It can use both EF and EF-s lenses and adds image stabilization to any lenses which don't have image stabilization.

I bought one and my keeper rate of photos went way up. The focus tracking and low light performance is well worth it alone. Buy the adapter if you have canon lenses and they will work fine or better because of the in-body stabilization.

I'm not trying to sell you but thought you may not have considered it and not aware of it's advantages. See below for a comparison.

I have owned both and at the same time. They are both exceptional cameras. I bought the 6DMKII first. Once I got my 5DMKIV, the 6DMKII became a seldom used backup camera. I recently traded the 6DMKII towards a R5 so I no longer have it. The 5DMKIV does have two cards for recording data where the 6DMKII only has one. There is no question that the 5DMKIV is the superior camera.

Having owned a 7D, my first question would be do you have a number of EF-S (crop sensor) lenses? They will neither work on the 5DMKIV or a 6DMKII. Should you have a number of EF-S lenses, I would strongly encourage you to not overlook the R6. It is the same price as the 5DMKIV. With an adapter, your EF-S lenses as well as EF lenses can be used on that camera if you indeed have them. I think it is superior to the 5DMKIV in terms of focus, color, etc.

Just something to consider based upon my experiences with all three cameras.

Read all the reviews and comparisons you can find. Then decide what features are important to you. Let us know what you decide.

I have both and find them both to be great cameras.
For serious studio work I tend to use the heavier, metal framed 5D4 with an L series lens, for casual street use the lighter, polymer frame 6D2 with a prime EF lens, 28 or 50 mm.
The difference in control layouts keeps me awake.

I'll just ask you - what benefits and features do you see of value between the 2?

No question - the 5D4. A pro grade, rugged body vs a consumer grade FF. Vastly better AF, superior DR, higher resolution, etc, etc, etc. Two stops of DR is not trivial.

In the graph comparing the Dynamic Range what parameter is represented by the horizontal line?

The R6 is an excellent camera and if you're essentially starting from scratch (you don’t already own EF Or other FF lenses). Then it would be a consideration. According to Photons to Photos the low light/high ISO performance and DR are almost exactly the same between the two. The R6 has IS and a higher frame rate, but there’s a big difference in resolution - 30MP for the 5D4 and 20 MP for the R6 and of course, there’s the battery life issue. Currently, the body prices are very similar, but the RF lenses of equivalent FL and speed are more expensive. It really comes down to whether you’re willing to trade 50% less resolution for IS, a faster frame rate, an articulated screen and the other MILC features, and if you’re willing to start from scratch with RF lenses. Yes, you an use EF lenses with an adapter (which adds length and weight), but if you want the all the advantages of the new system, the new (and expensive) RF lenses are a big part of that.

I can't add anything critical or productive about the the 6D. I've seen images taken with it, and they look pretty amazing.
I have had the 5D Mk4 for over two years, and absolutely love the camera. I kept the 80D and old T5i that I had, thinking I'd use them as backups, or with alternate lenses mounted? Nope. Not happening. I just simply can't go back. The 5D is a great camera. I have an Excel spreadsheet with all the menu items. If you want, PM me and I'll send you a copy.
Best wishes on your choice!

If you are following moving birds and such the 5D iv has a much better tracking system. They are both about the same in dynamic range. The 5Div has a slight advantage in noise reduction in low light. If you are going to upgrade and can afford the 5Div I would go that route.

John - what did you find so compelling about the 5D over the 6D?
