I agree. I have been reading review. Many people, some professionals, find the D850 a plastic toy and have returned the camera. i am most likely going to pass ............

Plastic toy??????? It's an incredibly capable camera and one of the top DSLR's ever made.

As always, I recommend reading all the reviews and comparisons you can find. That a lot of money to spend, so make the decision that's right for you. I love my D750, and my friend loves his D850.

Price is a little high. Nikon had a sale just before thanksgiving holiday. New for $2500.00. Most likely they will have it again. The toy comment is out of line. Possibly the best all around DSLR ever made. The only thing I would question as far as build quality goes is the little doors for the mic/headphones & usb/hdmi cable connections. If you decide to get it , you will not be disappointed.

I currently use a Nikon D750 and have been amazed by the photos I get. Recently, I have been presented with the opportunity to upgrade to a Nikon D850. Camera is from the original owner, who is upgrading to mirrorless, like new condition, 2 1/2 years old and 11,014 shots. Comes with original box and everything which came with it. Is this camera worth $2500? Certainly better than $2997 + tax for a new one. I know the choice is mine, just looking for some thoughts here. I do not see mirrorless as an option as I do not want to replace all my lens or have to use an adapter.

Thanks

If it's a USA model and you are saving tax and shipping I would not pay more than $2200.00

Yep, my thoughts exactly. The owner of the D850 will not budge on price .... so I passed!
I will just continue along with my D750, which serves me well.

Good for you! I love my D750 & this will be my last camera that I purchase!😁

That price is totally out of line! In my opinion.

As an owner of a D850; it is NOT a plastic toy. It is the best designed and best built non-flagship DSLR on the market today. The price is a tad on the high side for a used one outside of a Nikon warranty and would be more reasonable in the mid-to-upper teens instead. If you have a stable of F-glass already and are not a techno-geek content creator who gets off on the latest gear, you can not make a better choice. Otherwise, if you have the cash burning a hole in your pocket and are not too heavily invested in F-mount; look at the Z mirrorless as your next step. However, unless you plan to up your resolution from your current 24mpx, you would move up to the Z7 which matches the D850. No sense to make a lateral move to the Z6 at 24mpx as well. Just depends on your plans for the future.

High MP always slows down any camera compared to similar cameras with 24MP. Nothing really dated about the 850. It’s still everybody’s very most prized SLR, Nikonwise, to both users and aspiring hopeful users (such as our OP).

Still ROTFLMFAO. But for myself, I can’t picture me spending ~$2K to upgrade my 750. Acoarst my 750 gets only minor use so I have no nagging frustrations with it. Gotta be forgiving toward a healthy but aging mule.

The D750 is no Thoroughbred but it certainly not a mule. LOL

The 750 is a Pinto that has been subject to at least a couple recalls already.

Probably the best estimate of the D850. If I could justify the money for it I'd go for the D5.
