Cremation Camp at Night Grand Canyon ยฉ 2017 Larry Lorusso. Favorite image from a favorite place! Nothing like a river trip in the Canyon and 10 trips so far!

I have two. The first is of a beaver pond in Lebanon NH in October 2003 using my powerful (LOL) 2mp Olympus pocket camera. The second was sunset shot taken in New Mexico at Ghost Ranch with my Canon 70D and 18-135mp lens entitled "The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it."

Two great shots

Been looking through some of my images. I have one image that I consider an absolute standout from anything I have ever taken or likely ever will.

Is there one solitary image you have taken that for whatever reason, you consider your standout? Can you pin it to one?

Yep, a shot I took years ago on the coast in Sonoma Cal. Big bluff, the ocean and a small beach with a tiny figure in blue standing on it. (My wife in blue jeans and a blue rain jacket.) I have a large print up on my wall. I look at it several times a day, I just love it. In addition to the picture itself, it reminds me of good times. I was living in Ohio, teaching at Ohio State (my alma mater) and spent a month or so with my wife on the West Coast that summer. I climbed a large bluff to get that shot.

I have only taken 2 images in my life that I specifically intended as modern art. The image I consider a standout is one of the 2 modern art images. It's also the image I put the most thought into prior to shooting it.

I have never displayed this image and likely never will.

Which of my photographs is my favorite? The couple I'll keep from the thousand I'll shoot on my digital tomorrow.

Best answer yet!

Thanks.
I also like the B&W more.
I tend to play with the image afterwards looking for options or that feel that I want.
Like this photo that I finally said "that's what I saw" having the final edit after 2+ years.

The image Play With Me is really great. Thanks for the link as to how you edited it, I would have never guessed and is a good learning point for beginners like me.

Consider this. When thinking about any famous artist, they will only have 3 or 5 truly immortal paintings.
Sure, I could rattle off dozens of their great works, but 3-5 are immortal. And that's a lot in an artist's lifetime.

It's been my experience that if you have to tell a story on why it's a keeper, it's likely not a keeper ...

Immortal? A strange word to describe a painting - you must be an expert if you can "rattle off dozens of great works". I can only name little over a dozen, perhaps because they are ones I like.

And what experience is that? If everyone is an expert then no-one is an expert.
There are plenty of pics that could have several titles - you may just decide it's a keeper for the wrong reason that the photographer wishes to portray.
P.S. Beware the experts.

Like my Dad all of my "best" photos are not planned. His won a full page in Life Magazine and a Pulitzer but mine just go in a frame on the wall. I still enjoy them all so that's what's most important to me.
