Thanks for replying. I'm figuring the 500 on the D500 with the 300 on the D850. That should still be lighter than one of the heavy lenses on a tripod.

I have both the 300 and 500 PF lens's. They are great. I use them on a D7200, D750 and D850.

I got mine Ina week when I ordered from a local camera dealer. I am considering getting a better tripod and gimbal to use with it.

The 500 pF freed me from the need for a tripod.

I struggle a tad, trying to keep it from moving when taking a shot. I keep the shutter speed above 1/800 and VR on. I have slight tremors in my hands too. I will keep practicing. I am able to shoot the 300 PF with the 1.4 TC on a D500 handheld with no issues.

Still available. I sent Bill a PM, but I think he has other buying options worked out.

I may hold on to it for awhile if the rumors are true that it has been discontinued.

It could become a collectible and increase in value! Wishful thinking.

My arthritis robs me of hand strength and causes tremors. I agree the highest shutter speed possible.

Your great grandchildren might appreciate the appreciation.

Let's see, Nikon could be in trouble, they have a lens that is so popular they cannot produce it fast enough, and sells out when in stock.
So, let's see, I am in charge on Nikon and I will discontinue this lens because?
Yeah, great decision.

Maybe they will replace it in the lineup with a Z version. Nikon likes the idea of a 500mm on the Z6.

Well, it does seem like an unlikely move. And, if they follow suit, the Z version will be larger and heavier than the original, like the 70-200 f .8.

I've done the search a few times but mostly I see people are discussing how they are/were always on backorder.

I have been using the 300mm version and like the size, light weight, and results.

Thanks to Uncle Sam's stimulus checks and 5% back on the credit card, I will only have to spend $17.10 of 'earned' money. After a year of being cooped up, I see a lot of walking in my future. A pair of light lenses should be a good fit.

I have a 200-500 lens to use for BIF, after I cannot carry the 500 F4. Then I got the 500 PF then the 200-500 stays home most of the time. It is about 60% of the weight and shorter so easily hand holding. Of course I lost the zoom capability, but I love close up picture so that is my trade off.
I used on the D7200, Z6 and Z7 (mostly on DX mode, but some time on FX too if I am too close) :-))

I am going to try and use the 500 PF on my Z6 for slow moving or stationary wildlife and the 300 PF on my D500 for fast moving birds and wildlife. I will also have my 1.4 tc if I need it.

Thanks all for the feedback. It looks like most who are using it are happy with their decision.
If I get this one it will probably be my last lens for a long while.

That was my sentiment exactly I retired 4 years ago. My disposable income is fast becoming my invisible income.
