My 87 year old father has not had a hair cut since January 2020 and had no plans of getting it cut. I've let both may hair and beard grow but have since had a haircut and shaved.....

And looking at that shotgun, I’m guessing nobody is going to make him either

I stopped going to my local barber at the start of the pandemic. After a few months of looking pretty scruffy, I found an amateur willing to cut my hair. I have to keep reminding her about my appointment, she's often rather sarcastic to me, I have to clean up after the cut and I often have to bribe her with a foot massage or a gourmet home-cooked meal. On the other hand, she does the work for free, bakes a great pie and lets me sleep with her on a regular basis so I guess I shouldn't complain.

Sounds like you have a great barber - is she available?

Nope, cannot stand a beard or long hair for myself. OK for others but I like it short. I am now 68 and have shaved every day since I was 17. Also, keep my hair very short, either shave my head or a buzz cut that I do myself.

Beard or long hair may be OK for cold weather but down here in the south, I cannot imagine having my face and head covered in hair. Even wearing a hat for sun protection can be oppressively hot.

Actually, you will be cooler in the summer with a beard and longish hair. It acts like a cooler. Even more so if you throw water into it.

I've been cutting my own hair for years, but I might go to a barber once a year to get it "organized."

Have any of you let your hair continue growing and stopped shaving since this pandemic hit? I realize "let your hair continue growing" isn't an accurate term, but you know what I mean. I haven't had a haircut since December 2019, and I stopped shaving about a month ago.

I went for a few months without getting my hair cut, but when they were allowed to open again, I began getting haircuts again. I try to go to my barber around every three ot four weeks. I figure I have a steady retirement income and was paying for his services before, so why not help him make a living and keep his family supported. My wife has done the same with her stylist. we are doing our best to continue supporting our local businesses, especially the home town ones, the Mom & Pop stores.

My wife cuts my hair and by the 3rd attempt would say she almost knows what she is doing. LOL

Beard, never by anyone else since '71. Hair, not for last many years - self cut with scissors. (Don't know why, lost my last reply???)

I stopped shaving and haircuts in January 2020. I am loving it.

I'm happy to say that I have the same amount of hair that I was born with....it's just that my head is much bigger now.

Also, why does hair stop growing on one's head and start growing in the ears and nose?

I have had my hair cut a barber without interruption. Fear does not guide my actions.

I've used a WAHL cutter for a tapered buzz cut (no. 4 or 5) once every two weeks. For the last 40 years.

If you're tempted to get a hair / beard trimmer, just go WAHL.

I have shaved my head every day for the past 20 years. My day is not right if I do not shave every day. I use a straight razor

I started cutting my own hair about 6 years ago so I was ahead of the game. For the first year it looked terrible, but after finding the right tools and practising a bit I'm able to do almost as good as a barber. And yes, I stopped shaving about six months ago and now trim my beard whenever I cut my hair.
