Both my cameras will do video, at least the dialy thing on top says they will.
Maybe some day I'll try it. I've no idea how many feet per second they do.

I love my superzoom 1" sensor cameras vs my DSLR, many do based on the weight of DSLR and Mirror cameras. Add to that, the cost of glass and it pushes toward the Superzooms.

We must remember that image quality while desirable is lower on the totem compared to composition and storytelling.

You will know the end of the big cameras has come when they are in the checkout isle of Walmart ... As Seen on TV

Hi, What SuperZoom do you like? Dave

I am sure the heavy cameras will never be at Walmart especially the heaviest among them. It's the superzoom's that are more likely to be at Walmart.

It’s most curious that so many who scoff at the widespread shift to fully live view cameras will tend to point out that they haven’t yet seen any significant gains in image quality from live view systems as compared to SLRs. Is this ordinary short sightedness or is it an intentional classic straw man thing ? I haven’t yet heard of anyone adopting live view primarily for its image quality.

When a DSLR actually takes the picture, the mirror is up. So, the photons to the sensor is exactly the same, and lens and sensor being the same, the quality would be... the same.

That will be terrific. And this is very insightful on your part.

It’s hard to imagine what will be removed next. Maybe the lens or the sensor, or could it be the recording medium ?

Once you define a development by naming it after a deleted component relative to the previous status quo, you establish a pattern. Patterns don’t have to be logical to be patterns. The fact is that most are not. “Mirrorless” as a description of live view is just one example of that.

"””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””

I was never bothered by the mirrors in my reflex cameras. Such cameras have glaring shortcomings, but you could remove or cover up their mirrors and that would still do nothing to address those deficiencies.

Removing or deleting components goes nowhere. You hafta replace or supplant them with better components. Why do we refer to DSLRs rather than FLSLRs since the major distinction of filmless SLRs is the elimination of film ?

Maybe because they're digital?

Thaz the general rule but Sony did offer their variant with the mirror that lets the photons pass right through. Sony wasn’t the first. I had FSLRs from Canon with mirrors that never moved.

Still it’s true that almost none of the users enjoying the upgrade to live view are attributing any IQ improvement to LV. Their reasons seem to lie elsewhere. It makes sense. As you point out above, except at the moment of exposure the main features of any camera are its viewing-focusing system (which is also a convenient area in which to incorporate light metering as well).

The viewing system has always been the essence of any camera. Before cameras could record an image, they were used ONLY for viewing, as an artists’ aid to visualization. It’s always been all about the viewing system, and remains so as LV naturally displaces SLRs without any particular impact on IQ.

We agree. They are named for what was added, “D” added to existing “SLR”. They were NOT named for what was deleted. Thaz why it’s plainly stoopid to think of LV cameras as ML cameras. “MLC” is as pointless as “FLSLR”.

Should we refer to FSLRs when we are discussing the F2 or the F1 ? Maybe so. Then noobies can assume that the “F” in F3, FTB, FL, etc etc *obviously* means “film camera”.

Isn’t it odd that no one refers to legless snakes ? If not, why not ?

As a photographer you owe it all, really everything, to marketing. Film itself is a great example of that. Film is inferior to glass plates. But “You push the button, we do the rest” wasn’t gonna work very well with plates. Look it up.
