I have always hated staring through a dim peephole. I went to viewcams for video and mirrorless for stills. I only use the EVF when I absolutely have to. I regularly shoot 1000mm equivalent stills with image stabilization handheld on the LCD, and I'm a 61 year old with MS. It's just what I do.

I do have 3 DSLRs for nostalgia value though...

Has anyone ever seen a mirrorless camera on the road to failure?

Actually have LOL.

This is the Betamax, mirrorless & EVF. It was doomed by the VHS.
I got to operate it when I was 16 and when I reached the age of 20 it was obsolete.
After that a Spypen Actor which uses memory cards instead of tape or a hard drive -Whoohoo!
Later i owned a JVC which have flipping touch live-view screen -YAY!
The still images was crap course and those two run their roads.
Canon powershot was my last mirrorless/live view camera and i can say it took the road too as it does not have the interchangeable lens of its its modern counterparts which are the "IN" items of the present.
Yes mirrorless have all the bells and whistles now but sadly, my older DSLR still suffice for my needs so i might just have to see them become obsolete too. Hopefully something (waaaaaaay) better would come along before the DSLR's quit
Saving my money for the next upgrade.
.

Me and the heavy Beta LOL. it trained me to choose what to see with either eyes.

The digital cameras of the past belong in the past.

So if you remove the lens you still see the image in front of the camera?

I guess it depends on your definition of “image”. On your dslr, yes, you will see what is reflected from the mirror behind the lens. But the image is what the camera produces. If you overexpose or underexpose the image seen in your viewfinder, the image will look nothing like what you saw on your screen. That is why I disagree that you are seeing the image in your viewfinder.

If you removed the lens you don't see the image in the viewfinder.

No. I think it's just the idiotic notion that as soon as a new version of something is introduced, all the versions that came before are suddenly worthless garbage.

Here is a non-photographic example. In May of 2019, I bought a new vehicle made by an American manufacturer. Of course, my inbox was immediately flooded with emails from them about all sorts of things. The goal was to make sure I felt good about spending all that money. Before long, the tone of those emails shifted to trying to convince me to "trade up" to the "redesigned" 2020 version of the same model in order to experience all the advantages it offers. Are there improvements? Possibly, although none that are obvious to me. What is true is that the 2020 model is significantly smaller. This is a big deal, because the 2019 is just barely big enough.

So as far as I can tell, the only ones who would benefit if I did trade would be the manufacturer and the dealer. Not interested.

Cameras are exactly the same. There are probably some photographers who would benefit from the switch. There are probably more who have the illusion that they would benefit. My own sense of reality tells me I am fine staying where I am and either hanging on to my money or using it for something else.

Let's face it. Most "photographers" need a lot more than a new camera to improve. Personally, I need vision that is not declining because of glaucoma. Some on this site need expanded imagination. Some need a better realization of what might be interesting to others. Some need a better understanding of basic principles. Some do need a camera that is easier to use and to apply those fundamentals. Very few really have a specific need to get rid of a mirror.
No. I think it's just the idiotic notion that as s... (show quote)

I have an excellent reason for upgrading to mirrorless: I like it better and it IS better in my opinion and I want it. You can look down your nose all you want.

You are very wordy. All you had to say is,

"I want it!"

The screen is in the way. When I also remove the screen I can see what’s in front of the lensless camera.

When I remount the lens I don’t see much until I also reinstall the screen.

The lens is not vital to the SLR but clearly the screen is.

The lens is vital to any cameras except pin hole camera. But what my point is that I want to see the image formed by the lens and thus I use an SLR. The guy said the image I see in the SLR viewfinder is not formed by the lens. That's the argument.
