It's not bashing.
It's not about brand wars. (who cares?)
It's about...

Nikon’s operating loss for the April to September period of 2020 fell to a deficit of $449 million, which is in stark contrast to the $168 million surplus the company reported in the same period of 2019. For the fiscal year ending in March of 2021, Nikon is expected to post a colossal $720 million loss compared to a surplus of $65 million in the previous fiscal year.

I understand that consumers rarely look at the financials of the products they like to purchase and use.
Nikon can't live that way. Anyone who has ever run a real business understands why they cannot.
They are in trouble...serious trouble.
They need to turn it around...how...I have no idea. Not sure they know either.
At least they finally admitted their financial woes are a direct cause of not getting into mirrorless sooner.

What companies post as "losses" are not really losses, some companies have claimed losses for years, yet remain in business

Well...almost a billion in losses in 2 years...that's not a write-off...lol.
I understand not wanting it to be true... I do. But Nikon is in real trouble.
They have cut R&D. They are cutting everywhere, but not just recently...they have been cutting for two years trying to stop the bleeding. It hasn't worked.
Canon is going to post a profit of over 600 million in contrast.

Where do you get this information? Just curious because you state a surplus in 2019 while others say Nikon has been losing money for many years, not just the last two

PS: While I don't want Nikon to go out of business, it would not be a heartbreak for me if they did, I have enough camera to last me for years, If something comes out that would be a REAL improvement, I would buy it (if I could reasonably afford it), no matter who made it. If it is not a major improvement I will stick with Nikon for the familiarity. The differences in modern cameras are (for all practical purposes) non-existent, as many have said, if you looked at two photos side by side (from different brands of cameras) at normal viewing distance, you probably wouldn't be able to tell which camera they came from.

I can see that this thread will end up in the Attic. There is way too much bickering and far too much name calling. This is not a place for cursing. We should try to post what we feel will be a viable suggestion.
I believe that if you don’t work for Nikon or Canon or Sony, we don’t really need to resorting to insults to each other. Let’s get back to photography which is what we are here to do.

Do you mean like digital predicted the end of film?

Well digital didn't predict anything. People did. Look at technology. When is the last time you used an 8-inch floppy drive, or a 5-inch floppy, or even a 3.5 inch floppy. There may be some someplace.

I'm not predicting the end of DSLR in the near future. People still like DSLRs, probably because of the fact they are used to them. Not because they are superior.

Computer manufacturers are already putting solid-state drives in their computers. Go to Best Buy and check out the laptops. Many have solid state drives. In ten to 20 years you won't be able to get a drive with a rotating platter.

The same thing is happening to DSLRs and Mirrorless cameras. Eventually, I believe, the manufacturers will stop making DSLRs. My mirrorless system is superior in everyway to my Nikon D850. I will probably sell it. The focusing is quicker and noticeably sharper on the mirrorless than my D850, and hell no, the mirrorless is not a Canon.

I may be wrong about the D850. But, I just don't see any advantage over my mirrorless camera.

We see many dire warnings on UHH. The end of DSLRs. The demise of Nikon. Etc. For the most part these warnings come from people who do not use the equipment they are predicting the failure of. For example mirrorless users predicting DSLRs are finished, or Canon/Sony users predicting the collapse of Nikon. It seems the people initiating these posts get perverse enjoyment from seeing other brands have difficulties.

My four Nikon DSLRs are not concerned about their own demise. They are working better than ever. Even my Coolpix is not the least worried. Mirrorless cameras are great but so are DSLRs. Can’t pay attention to idiocy. Just keep shooting to the end. Doesn’t matter what kind of camera is used. A matter of personal preference.

I don't think anyone wants Nikon to go out of business.
The interview took place in Japan (by subscription only)... but PetaPixel does the lowdown on what was discussed. It isn't a pretty picture. But it is the reality of the situation...straight from the horse's mouth.

And I still check for power after I turn the breaker off.

Good procedure. I was going to work on one of the two ceiling lights in the master bathroom. Turned off the circuit breaker and checked the room, no power when I flicked the switch. I didn't flip the switch for the other light, the one I was going to work on. That light was on different circuit. Found pretty quickly that it was hot. Now I check after the circuit breaker is off.

I was passing a photography store and bought a Canon AE-1. My wife surprised me with a Canon 1v-HS. Both are film cameras no longer made. These are companions to my 5D Mark IV. I enjoy photographing with all three. I bet my cameras talk to each other when I’m sleeping. LOL!

Amen, Brother. After seeing all the venom shared by people with too much time on their hands, I now understand why this nation is so screwed up. Get out your camera and take pictures and keep your mouths shut and we all will be better off. This exchange is why I am becoming less of a fan of UHH. Get back to what this forum was designed to do, provide meaningful and respective information to all photographers, regardless of equipment or experience.

I am a little confused, I thought this was a photo blog where we can learn from each other on photography. But here we are evaluating the financial performance of a company. When I am evaluating investments I go to morningstar and EDGAR not UHH

I did not start the thread, but the original posters info is accurate.
Folks not liking the news may get upset...out of my control.
One would think however that the financial status of camera companies is relevant to photographers.
Cameras don't just fall out of the sky.

Who says we all can't get along. When a Texan and a New Yorker can agree, anything is possible. Thanks for your quote.
