I had this camera for some time and love it. It's compact but powerful, full featured and produces good results. I take it with me whenever I don't want to carry my Sony A7Riii. I highly recommend it.

Thanks for all the info. You are correct, it is an expensive little camera, which is why I haven't purchased it yet. Wait I g to see if the price drops in the next several months. I did look at its predecessor, but like the improvements, so I can wait until the price drops.

Last year's trip to Disney World with the grands, I didn't want to keep up with a large camera and bag so chose my RX100 VII. It did everything I expected and then some. I got good colors, sharp pictures, and some good video. We captured some great, great memories from that small package.

But...There is no magic pill in a small camera, small sensor, for low light. Physics won't allow it. Don't expect it. I saw one dad pull out his Canon FF camera inside at a show. I'm sure it worked well but no way for this grandad to carry that around 10 hours a day.

Look no further if $$ is not a problem. It’s simply the Best! Amazing focusing using the same system as their flagship a9. I bought this to go along side my RX100ii which is great in low light!

Cost is a concern, which is one reason why I'm waiting...hoping the price will drop eventually. I'm aware of the low light issue, and don't think that will be a problem. Thanks for your input, I greatly appreciate it.

I appreciate your thoughts. The purpose of this camera is to have one with me all the time. Cell phone cameras are not a replacement for the real thing. I don't have a problem taking my D7100 with zoom lens with me on major "trips" .

I always take a big camera and a do it all lens or two plus flash. I like having my Sony for candid shots and at dinner when I don’t want the big camera sitting next to my dinner plate.

I have the VI and it is the perfect travel camera. I'm able to print out 9X13 prints that look as good as the ones out of my FF a7ii. Can't beat it for size and the print quality does not suffer.

Over the years I have really enjoyed my various Sony RX100s until the Fuji X100 series arrived on the scene. I do recommend the camera for what I does well, decent images while enjoying pocket ability. I still keep the "lil" Sony in my car as my "kick-around" in my car for those situations when a cell phone camera just does't cut (almost always).

smaller sensor but has a huge zoom range
Image quality is very good.

A kick around camera for over a Thousand dollars I think Not! It’s the Best you can buy!

If price is an object, buy a used one. I bought a used Sony RX100markiv from someone on UHH and it is wonderful. I looked at the Canon version at WPPI and they were all broken already at the Canon booth! The Sony is a beast and well worth the premium price, either new or used. By the way the mark iv has only a 24-70 lens, but starts at F1.8, so it is much better at low light photography.

I've never been able to much bigger than an 8x10 before the small sensors fall apart.

Had the III version but sold it because the lens cover doors stuck partly closed. Bought a Canon G9X II to replace it. A little smaller than the Sony and a lot cheaper and I think the IQ is just as good.
