Canon HX70 is even better for birding; longer zoom, faster autofocus.

That is Totally Not Factual! There is no comparison between these 2 cameras! One cost twice the other! Please compare your Canon to a much lower end camera for a realistic review. I think you’re very biased towards Canon to compare these totally different cameras. Canon makes Awesome point and shoot cameras But none of them compares to the RX100 series which is understandable giving the price and performance difference!

I'm a Sony person, but I have to disagree a little with none compares to the RX100 series. The Canon Powershot G3 series is very comparable except for size (Sony wins).

The camera you are talking about has a much smaller sensor in a much bigger body. This is not what the OP was talking about. Canon makes a similar camera to the RX100 series, but as I stated previously, when I went to use it at Canon's trade show booth, they were all broken and the salespeople could not get them to work, scaring me away from the product!!

Hi. I would like to know if anyone is familiar with or has the Sony RX100 VII. Any thoughts/recommendations on this camera or similar camera would be greatly appreciated. I'm looking for a good, small, fit in your pocketbook take everywhere camera that has a zoom lens. It would not replace my 7100 camera.

Thank you.

Tina,
I have the RX100 viii. The v6 or 7 have improvements and a different zoom lens than v3. It’s size and the quality of pictures is worth the price. Version 3 is great in low light, too. I keep it with me always. I’ve had many P&S cameras and this one is much more than a simple P&S. For one thing, it can shoot in Raw and the battery life is phenomenal. I hadn’t used the camera in several months and checked the batteries, thinking they would need to be recharged. All 3 batteries were still at 100%!!! Every previous small camera would have had dead batteries after even just one month of non use.

Version 3 is $550 LESS than version 7. Just sayin’

To clarify Meaning the Sony RX100vii. A totally different camera with it’s new AF abilities. I’m mistaken saying “none compares”

I bought this camera as my carry around camera. It is expensive but your essentially getting the equivalent to a high end SLR in a small package. Picture quality is great, although it's low light capabilities are a bit limited. I just use Topaz denoise. I also own the RX10III and the 7RIV. Yes the menu system could be a lot better but you can customize it to the way you want it. You can save some money buy looking for either a used or refurbished model. I bought mine refurbished and saved Three Hundred Dollars, plus I got a 2 year extend warranty from Sony. Check out B&H,Adorama, or KEH for used equipment. You can always return the camera if it doesn't meet your specifications. The camera is almost to small. One last point, if you use your phone as your back up camera, it will save you on battery power and life for your phone.

I have a Sony RX100 VI. I also have a Canon EOS5D II and a Sony RX10 III. I take 90% of my pictures with the RX100 VI. I carry it all the time: driving, hiking, biking, et al. It has a 24-200 lens that does just fine except for close ups of animals and birds. For close ups of birds, Bald Eagles, etc., its the Sony RX10, but I plan for those pictures and take the 10 instead of the 100.

Cheers,
