Hi. I would like to know if anyone is familiar with or has the Sony RX100 VII. Any thoughts/recommendations on this camera or similar camera would be greatly appreciated. I'm looking for a good, small, fit in your pocketbook take everywhere camera that has a zoom lens. It would not replace my 7100 camera.

Thank you.

Without a doubt, a powerful pocket camera. Plenty of reviews online can be found.

I have the version VI and have no complaints whatsoever. I sometimes grab it it for my go to camera when I want to put it in my shirt pocket.

Tina, checkout the DPreview of the Olympus TG6. Waterproof, zoom lens, support for raw files and a ton of other features. One of the highest rated travel cameras on the market.

I have the original version of the RX100. It was, and still is, phenomenal. Seven versions later, it may very well be more phenomenal. It's "problem" is that, except for 30x40 enlargements, compact cameras can be more productive than a DSLR.

Good alternatives to look at include the TG-6. I have the TG-5. The rugged and waterproof features are useful. The Panasonic ZS100 (now ZS200) are good alternates. My wife uses a ZS100 as a primary travel camera and often "out shoots" me.

I have the Panasonic ZS100 and am very pleased with it. It takes great pictures. On the other hand, I also have an SX50 HS and sometimes miss the tele end of the zoom (1200 equiv) when using the ZS100.

I’m on vacation in Aruba right now with mine. Nothing better for the size you want, pics are fabulous!

Hi Tina

to complement my 7200, I researched and picked up the RX100 MVII. I wanted something that was easy to carry around, had good zoom capability, and lighter as I do a lot of hiking so needed light and compact. With all of its built in modes and a killer mechanical zoom. Meets all of these specifications. My runner up was the TG-5. While I love the waterproof/lifeproof features, it did not have the zoom and a few other features I really wanted for my needs. Your subject needs may lead to a different conclusion.

I have not tried to blow up and print large, but have gone up to 8x10. Fine for this size, and if you are using it to post to for fun, etc, will not be a restriction.

My only warning is that the menu system on the RX100 is REALLY different than your D7100 will be, and not as intuitive (at least for me). Took me really sitting down, reading the manual, finding the right screens, and making up a cheat sheet to get me to where I was comfortable.

But as a small, coat pocket (not jeans pocket) full featured camera that can go from technical to point-and-shoot, it is a great choice.

good luck

My words and possessions exactly. Rare that I use my Sony A-65 and the army of lenses from the Minolta era.

The ZS or TZ100 is so ... too much so... versatile in its [complex/complicated] abilities it is necessary to set it up before going out on a shoot. The Sony HX50 is an excellent pocket 24/7 camera. oops SX50, yes I have one refurbished from the great 14000 recall, but it is a lump too big for a pocket. Canon SX50 is an excellent Birding camera... http://stokesbirdingblog.blogspot.com/2013/02/canon-sx-50-hs-for-bird-photography-i.html

The SonyRX100 VII, yes marvelous, but much0$ and the price of the last-year's model has surely dropped.
When I bought my TZ100 the TZ200 had come out and so the TZ100 was a bargain. How improved[?] does a camera have to be? The latest RX100 VII and greatest is not necessarily the greatest especially for the price benefits balance.

I have one and it fits well into a coat pocket. It is not optimum in low light, but in all other instances it is superb.

This is a very impressive camera that would fit in your pocketbook.
I have used this very model and I was very impressed.
I am waiting for the rumored Sony RX100 VIII successor to this camera.
Usually, when a new model comes out prices fall on the previous model.
Below are reviews of this camera.

I had the Mark 4 version and loved it. I now have the Mark 7 version and love it even more. Don't hesitate, it is a really excellent camera.
