I would like to know your opinions on a deal on a D600 camera with 5741 shutter count battery ,charger ,lexar 64 gb memory card ,strap, and inst. book, for my nikon d7100 with 12,000 shutter count and a nikon 12-24 F/4 lens, charger ,2 batteries and a 77mm uv filter, and a 16 gb card all in EX. shape.I would like to go full frame but thats all I could afford, and how is the D600 camera? thanks Jim Bianco

The D600 had an oil on the sensor problem. Nikon brought out the D610 as a result. I would never buy a D600.

All cameras are full frame... You should not drool over so-called 'full frames'. Many not.so.called.full.frame are as good if not better then their full.frame siblings.

For info, no one can tell you if it is a good deal since you do not mention a price...

Be warned that the D600 had issues.

Second the be careful with D600 shutter oil issues. I had one and got the oil splash twice, Nikon replaced with a D610.

Jim, keep looking. As others here have said, the D600 "had issues" that made me look toward a D610. The 610 is a great little camera (like a D600 WITHOUT the issues) and I found one on EBAY in Mint condition with the original box and all that was in it from Nikon for less than $500, shipped.

I use a D600 and it is an great full frame body. It produced a 24x48 print and the hawk and gull are shot with a 200-500.All D600's have probably been updated already. so I wouldn't worry too much about it.

Price is 525.00 for D600, and thanks for the heads up.

Jim, I have the D600, it is a great camera, IMHO, the shudder was replaced sometime before I bought it, it takes great pictures and easier to use than my D800e.

Jim,
I have a D600 and had all the factory updates and is very well repaired...
Now as far as you trading your d7100 with lens for 525 for the d600 is quite high, take a look at these with no trade in;

Forget it. Nothing especially tempting. Plenty other options. Sticking with SLRs more options as every day passes and ever more users leave SLRs behind.

I would not do that. You trade in a newer D7100 (150,000 shutter life) proven capability with good lens, 12-24mm, F/4 for an older D600, rated far below D750. My 2 cents

I have the D610, the model I am sure you know superseded the D600. It has given me excellent service with no issues. Your D7100 camera has been great for their owners. The 12-24 f4 AFS is a great optic. I use mine with my D7000 and the D610, with the latter between 18-24 mm without vignettes.

If I were in your position I would keep what I have unless the camera is not giving you the service you need for your photography.

If it did would that be free of charge, no matter how old it is ?

No way I would buy a used D600. I had two of them both with oil on sensor because of the shutter. I had to return both of them and bought a different body.

Check out a used D 700. I loved mine. One of the best cameras I ever owned.

There are no rules for good photographs, great photographs have just one: the camera used didn't have a risk of oil spots.

That is true of many of them. Keep it forever. You know it’s a clean machine.

Nothing less than the D850 would be a really notable upgrade, and most users don’t need one. Far as SLRs go, no new major temptations would be expected.

But concerning the OP, there’s really no assurance that he would get a good one like yours. So if he lacks the extra $150 for a D750, he has been well advised to just sit tight and not trust to Lady Luck.

Fear defeats more people than any other thing in this world. Followed by oil spots.
