Oh, these are great images of the coast; the colors and the composition are well executed. Personally, I'm a mountain man. I grew up close to mountains and now we're living in the foothills of the Cascades. Still, I hear that Sirene cals to come up for a visit. I also like the 4 seasons as there is an infinite photo opportunity.

Hello, My fellow photography buffs.
I wanted to start this thread and just ask each of my hedgehogs...
What is that one thing, one subject that you want to get the perfect shot of. The one subject you can't get out of your thoughts, it drives you to keep shooting.
The one that makes you constantly think of what lens, what shutter speed, aperture, what time of day, night.

Have you recently captured that shot, Share it of so. Share the experience, the thrill.
Looking forward to seeing the response.

It’s a poor excuse of a photographer who doesn’t try to get every exposure as near perfect as possible.

Beautiful work, Thomas. (19:23:32 timestamp of post)

Maybe I'm just a sucker for a pretty face but the last image is stunning. Maybe it's the violet tint in here eyes.

My daughter hired a professional makeup artist for her wedding in 2017. I learned to appreciate the skill and the art of it. She looked like she could have been on a magazine cover that day. My photo is snapshot quality but you get the idea.

I would love that shot as well or any great landscape shot with a multi-colored Aurorae

Even just the most predominant one, the green, would be special.

I think it would be a northern lights shot. Although I'm on the north side of St. Paul, MN, it's to find enough dark sky without metro and suburban light pollution. Earlier this month I was in northern Wisconsin on a utility trip to replace a wood stove chimney but took my gear with. The photo attached was done to test my ability to use some of the night/astro features of my camera in anticipation of possible northern lights viewing. The bright lighting you see is moonrise light even though you'd swear it was a streetlight. Kinda washed out my hopes of northern lights, so I went and threw another log on the fire...

I haven't captured it yet but I always wanted a photograph of birch trees with their yellow leaves and with some red color from sumac or maples in the shot. Unfortunately it's too late this season. I know that John Gerlach a professional who has a fall workshop in the UP of Michigan knows of a birch forest that might give me what I'm looking for. Hopefully next year.

For me it's Mt Chocorua and Chocorua Lake in New Hampshire. In different weather conditions, time of year, time of day, etc. it delivers endless variety. The general area is my ancestral home and I grew up with pictures of it hanging on the walls of our home. When I was very young my father climbed it and injured his ankle near the top. In the summer of 2006 I climbed it to celebrate my recovery from open heart surgery the previous December. So, needless to say, it's a special place for me.

As a bridal makeup artist I'm obsessed with beauty genre editorials...

Below please find but a few of the hundreds of beauty editorials I've photographed... most of which I did the makeup artistry and/or trained the MUA... And yes male grooming is also on the list since quite a few very lucrative gigs were with corporate male CEO's doing their PR marketing imagery.

btw, the global make-up market in 2019 is estimated to be worth about 75 billion U.S. dollars.

It might sound funny to say I want to capture a mountain in the right setting. Since mountains are notoriously difficult to move, my next best alternative is to find the ideal foreground and the ideal angle. And the ideal mountain of course, but I'm fairly flexible about what looks "mountainy". Not to mention good light to take the shot in (which usually means good weather).

When I took this one it was cloudy with a light drizzle. I had to stand in the rain waiting for a gap in the clouds to shine some light on the top of the mountain. Finding the foreground and angle was sheer luck - I pulled off the road to park in a council dumping area and when I turned round, there it was.

This image and the story accompanying it goes nicely with your earlier discussion about having some sort of idea about what you want to achieve in an image. Here you had an idea about what you wanted but wasn't quite sure how to achieve it. Then you pulled over and as you say "sheer luck" put you in the position where the shot was possible. Actually "sheer luck" involves another important skill and that is having the ability to recognize that you have been offered an opportunity and having the wherewithal and ability to take advantage of the gift. Thanks.

This could open up a whole new subject of discussion. When is the perfect the enemy of the good or the possible. You could spent so much time seeking perfection, that the bird flies away. I think we all want to become better photographers and I can't imagine any of us wanting to become worse ones. But with that, don't you ever just snap a photograph of something just for the hell of it, knowing full well that you could spend some time and thought and make it a lot better, perhaps use a different lense, or move 11 feet to the left or wait until the light was at a better angle. I'll work to become better but can readily accept that I am "poor excuse of a photographer" because sometimes I just take a picture knowing full well that it could have been made better, but sometimes it is not something for ages and just doesn't matter.

I don't think I have a true "passion shot" I seem to love to shoot in black and white, although I do cover a lot of flowers and nature shots. Although I love to see what I can get in the night sky, yet I need to work on that more. My results have not been up to par
