I am interested in how you feel about Nikon as an investment over Canon for young professionals breaking into the business. I've been following the downfall of Nikon for a while and it seems like they just don't have the "umph" to keep up.
Full disclosure: I shoot Nikon weddings, portraits, landscapes. I am well aware of the Nikon quality. I am interested in your oppinion on Ken's comments.
I went on a photo trip once with Ken Rockwell, maybe 8 years or so ago, and found him to be a real idiot. That was my last interaction with him and I don't foresee having any other interaction with him in the future. I'll just keep shooting with my Nikons until it doesn't work for me anymore, whenever that may be, if ever!
His opinion?
Not like the Nikons will all of a sudden quit working.
Sony is now making Nikon's high-end sensors. They've embedded a clever bug into the Nikon cameras with these Sony sensors: the Nikon DSLR suddenly dies after a encrypted number of flips of the mirror the sensor can detect as different from the original Sony mirrorless cameras. Just look online for 'Nikon Sudden Death Syndrome'. I've seen a thread where they think from your Nikon serial number you can identify the week number in the calendar year (01 -> 53) your camera is most likely to die. The syndrome isn't even very hush-hush.
That is interesting, if true. I can see lawsuits over this adventure.

I have always used Canon apart from an early mamiya, but there is nothing wrong with Nikon as far as I know

Surely CHG_CANON is joking, but some are likely to believe his post. It just reminded me of some of the political conspiracy stuff that ends up in the UHH Attic section. Just having some fun with CHG!

Indeed. Nikon is struggling financially, BUT they are a storied company who makes great cameras, and I suspect will be around for a long time in some form - so many loyal users. Sony and Fuji have been early leaders on the mirrorless train, but Canon’s new R56 and a whole series of new RF lenses shows how quickly a major company can catch up and maintain their leadership in the interchangeable lens market, and I expect Nikon’s next generation of bodies will do the same - this is the company that produced the D500, the D850 and the D3/4/5 - world class bodies (and this from a Canon/Fuji user).
