Defunding Police
I keep hearing where the Democrats (mostly) want to defund the police and use that money for other items they say will cut crime. Can anyone tell me without writing a book what they think investing that money in is going to have any significant crime reduction. Seems to me defunding the police will make them less responsive or available if someone needs help and defunding doesn't seem to me a very bright idea?
I think it's an asinine idea.
Using money elsewhere and reducing police coverage will increase crime (more the latter).
I wonder what they're smoking.

I don’t believe this is a partisan issue (Democrat or Republican). This absurd idea seems to be a product of the recent BLM type protests - that’s the first I ever heard of it. The LAST thing we need is less police or police that are paid less (in my opinion).
I'm sure you heard about the big rally trying to push the idea of defunding the police. They were really disappointed when the police wouldn't provide crowd control.

They don't seem to understand the ramifications of what they are asking...

My thoughts exactly. Well targeted social/housing/medical/mental health/jobs programs may help reduce crime (poverty drives crime), but can you imagine the chaos if we were stupid enough to reduce our police force? In my city, we could use more police, not less. In Raleigh, we don’t have enough traffic cops (50 Mph is getting to be the standard speed in 35mph residential streets, red light running is common and stop signs are regularly ignored), the police often don’t even bother to investigate/prosecute property crimes, and they were apparently unable to protect our downtown from being vandalized repeatedly during the recent demonstrations. Citizens are uncomfortable enough that you can’t find a home defense shotgun for sale at any of the local gun stores - they are sold as soon as they come in.

People who need police the most want it the least.
Poor choice of words can ruin a good idea, defunding should have been Refunding and people would climb on board. Refunding is a redistribution and education of law enforcement. Guns and chokeholds are not the answer to all situations.
Pulling up in a squad car and shooting a 12-year-old boy who had a toy gun is a prime example. Google "12-year-old boy with a toy gun was shot/killed from the window of a squad car." Refunding with better police education, and funding people other than police is a good idea. Police should not fight fires with a gun, nor de-escalate a home dispute with demands rather than questions and alternatives.
Trump should be defunded so that he will not try to cure COVID-19 with injections of bleach.
There are good police and bad police but they are human and because of that they make mistakes which sometimes unfortunately can cost someone's life. I'm not excusing that but, I wouldn't want to be in a world without the good ones.

Once power is obtained the local police will go away and the money will go to a federal force based on the Gestapo or the KGB.
That is how the democrats will keep "Crime" down.
They look to federalize more than the police to centralize all power in Washington and the democrat party.

Who is “ they “ other than a few protestors ??
Face book is not a source .

Look in the mirror and you shall find your answer. Also a little proof reading and spelling would help your post.
The criminal does his crime out of greed not because of poverty. He will do anything not to get caught to include killing the cop. Limiting how the cop can respond and protect himself is not good idea.
