Commercial orchards just north of Yakima, Washington. Smoke is from wildfires near and far.
The last is a 3-shot pano (vertical orientation) showing the ridge to the left of the southern entrance to the Yakima River Canyon. The canyon (a designated scenic byway) was part of a 75,000 acre fire.

You really caught the color and bigness of the orchard.
Thank you Larry! I had to edit the "pretty" into these scenes as the smoke, haze and glare were flattening everything. As for bigness, these are 3 separate orchards in the same general area. I was particularly pleased to be able to shoot the one that leads to the bare mountain, even though I had to dodge big trucks loaded with crates Your interest is appreciated!
Beautiful work, Linda! I am happy that the fires are not preventing you from getting out.
Thanks so much, Mike. I was really surprised to find yesterday morning clear after the horrible wind and fires of Monday - most of the new fires were east and southeast, towards the Palouse. But today, while I was out for two hours shooting, the smoke settled into our valley pretty heavily.
Being an apple lover I like these. I wonder if there are any "Honey Crisp" there? When I want something different I get a few "Granny Smith".
Thanks Robert! These might be Honey Crisp as it's too early for Fuji. But I tend to not pay much attention to the variety (there are soooo many!) when shooting. For photography I'm just seeing the green (Granny Smith), yellow (Golden Delicious) or red (everything else)
btw, I don't think there's an apple out there anymore that weighs less than 1/2 pound. Next size up, volleyball??

They did it with tomatoes so why not apples. I remember one hybrid tomato my Dad got seeds for to put in my Grandmother's garden that climbed 15' poles and the tomatoes weight was over 2 lbs. A few when sliced were too big for a regular slice of bread when we made sandwiches. But cooked and diced they tasted good in Grandma's home canned tomatoes and home made ketchup.
