Thanks much! I bet you have grapefruit, though

Nice photos, and interesting--I did not know the apples were grown that way. Apparently I’ve never seen a modern orchard operation.

Appreciate your interest, John! I believe some areas are using mechanical pickers also, but I haven't seen any here yet. The trellis-style growing enables more yield per acre, with rows oriented for maximum sun exposure (I think I read that; I've forgotten).

Lord have mercy, I have never seen so many apples in my life. I have seen tons of mangoes though.

🤣

I've only seen mangoes in grocery stores. The fresh look anything but fresh, but the dried and coated in sugar aren't bad. Of course, mango-flavored margaritas are best of all 😊

I really like the views of the people working. Those are some serious ladders.

Thank you for your time and comments, Kathy. I believe the aluminum ladders are lighter weight than the old wooden ones, and probably more durable.

As with "smudge pots," "irrigation beasts," and hops growing apparatus, I'm quite drawn to what I see as interesting forms of those ladders

Commercial orchards just north of Yakima, Washington. Smoke is from wildfires near and far.

The last is a 3-shot pano (vertical orientation) showing the ridge to the left of the southern entrance to the Yakima River Canyon. The canyon (a designated scenic byway) was part of a 75,000 acre fire.

Feedback and suggestions are welcomed.

A bit of nostalgic glow for the few old-time orchards left.

My wife and I just returned from a trip to see our Granddaughter in Redmond, WA. I was amazed to see the changes made in the name of productivity in the shape of the trees and how they are trained to make the fruit more accessible at harvest.

Well, the "name of productivity" keeps the prices lower for us, I assume. Or is that a naive assumption?

Thanks for your visit.
