The complaints made by the public about the efficiency of the Postal Service will fall by the wayside if the agency is privatized as is the intent of the some politicians. The public will miss the Postal Service, such as it is now.

So, you think the UPS and FedEx are poorly run?

Is anyone else experiencing a precipitous drop in deliveries or late deliveries? We have had ONE delivery this week and none last Saturday in our neighborhood. Having lived at this address for >50 years, this is unprecedented. We LOVE our mail carrier, and I have to believe this is due to the recent cut in staffing, hours and equipment (7 mail sorting machines were removed from the Charlotte NC distribution center in the last few weeks without explanation). Is the intent to cripple the service to justify its dismemberment? If you’re having a similar experience, have you emailed or called your Senators and Congressmen in addition to your local postmaster? (I have) In my opinion, this is an outrage of national proportion.

I live in Cary and have experienced missing mail, 3 times my doctor tried to send me a prescription through the mail and it never arrived. I am also receiving a lot of other peoples mail, and when I write on the envelop wrong address and stick it in the mail box it comes right back to me.

We also vote by mail in "red states".
In fact, by legislative action, receiving a 'mail-in' ballot is automatic for those of us over 65 who ask for them.

Yep, voting by mail is nothing new. In the Civil War ballots were carried to the soldiers on the front lines to allow them to vote. Absentee ballots can be requested by any registered voter but only for good reason. Being afraid of Covid is not one of them. Why would one political party be so pushy about sending an unrequested ballot to every registered voter? I'm way over 65 and as long as I can get to a polling place I will cast my ballot personally and when I can't I'll address that situation then. I say leave in person voting alive and well.

The cost of gasoline might have been 26 cent/gallon and that has obviously changed. I was working in West Texas at the time and a letter postmarked on a Sunday was delivered to my house on Monday. That is first class service. Nowadays I live in Northern California where the cities of Redding and Anderson are 11 miles apart. It takes 3 days for a letter from Anderson to come to my Redding address. The price of stamps may go up due to inflation but my feeling is that the service has taken a nosedive.

He hopes to cripple the USPS so it will be privitized. He has no intention of replacing mailboxes or restoring dismantled sorting machines.

You cannot privatize a money losing entity. It goes bankrupt.
Another case of misdirection - the USPS delivers 433 million pieces of mail daily. The latest "crisis" concerns a possible , "POSSIBLE", mailing of 51 million mailed votes. The USPS removes underutilized boxes every year. The USPS is removing mail sorting machines because they are unused due to a severe decline in first class mail. Package delivery is on the increase and it takes floor space - that space is achieved by removing unused sorting machinery.

Yep, just to clarify, this was not intended to be a “political post” and don’t wish it to be in the attic - just curious if this is just my area and if you’re having similar issues, who are you complaining to?

I don't understand why this is political at all. The postal service has been in operation for over a century in this country. It serves people of all parties equally. We pay for this service with our taxes just like we pay to have roads, the military etc. Can you imagine the outcome of privatizing our roads? Possibly huge tolls every time we go grocery shopping. How about privatizing our military?

I have a package that I ordered on the 11th from Conneticut that says it left the Jersey City NJ distribution facility on the 13th and nothing since then...Today being the 21st...I had another order placed the same day coming from Illinois that was delivered on the 17th...I think it's certain facilities that are to blame for the slow distribution...My carrier went to another route and I also can get my mail as early as 2pm or as late as 5pm. I used to get it between 11 and 12 with the old carrier...

Well that package evidently is still sitting in NJ as it wasn't delivered today and there are to other scans showing any activity...

We are having some problems here in Brea, CA- mail is late, a day or two and sometimes longer. I sent a check to my HOA in July, they still have not received it and I have not got it back either.(It has not been cashed). I am committed to not having the Postal Service go away, so I do all my bills by mail and use them as much as I can for parcels too. I don't know what the problem is.

Our PO carrier is maintaining her same schedule, with delivery every day. We have no problems in our area of NC. I wish that the political ads would be delayed until after the elections...ha

I live in southwest Utah and it takes a week to get a letter to Vegas just 120 miles away because of the way the postal service loops the delivery. This is not new. Has always been that way. It take one day to get a letter 400 miles away going the other direction.

I sell a product from home and have shipped by Priority Mail for about 9 years now. Until recently I got very reliable 2-3 day delivery anywhere in the US, with the very occasional delay of a day or two (but no package ever disappeared.) Recently, though delays seem to be happening more often. Had a package get to Ft Worth recently in 2 days, but then it sat in the Distribution Center for 4 more days, before taking another 2 days to move 25 miles to the customer's mailbox. That's the worst example so far, but several others have taken 4-5 days to arrive when they should have taken only 2-3.

I have an online business for the last 15+ years. FedEx (price) and UPS (leaving boxes at the door/garage door/etc.) disqualified themselves. USPS has slowed dramatically and also, suddenly, items 'lost in the mail' and seemingly never delivered or damaged.

Mail deliveries have slowed down over the last several months and gotten much worse recently, since the new Postmaster General's cuts. The USPS has always been reliable and made efforts to deliver in a timely manner. Standing in line at the local USPS to get my packages 'accepted' (barcodes scanned) now takes 30-50 minutes per day instead of 5-10 minutes. My customers expect delivery per the 'old' USPS delivery reliability stats. But now, they aren't living up to them.
