Is anyone else experiencing a precipitous drop in deliveries or late deliveries? We have had ONE delivery this week and none last Saturday in our neighborhood. Having lived at this address for >50 years, this is unprecedented. We LOVE our mail carrier, and I have to believe this is due to the recent cut in staffing, hours and equipment (7 mail sorting machines were removed from the Charlotte NC distribution center in the last few weeks without explanation). Is the intent to cripple the service to justify its dismemberment? If you’re having a similar experience, have you emailed or called your Senators and Congressmen in addition to your local postmaster? (I have) In my opinion, this is an outrage of national proportion.

Maybe a half an hour later than normal.

No more than usual. Ever since a distribution center was set up in Honolulu years ago. With the distribution center it takes 3-4 days to receive a letter which was mailed a block away. Before the distribution center anything mailed on island (Maui) we would receive it the day after it was mailed (sometimes the very same day).

We have experienced a slowdown. I’m not going to make this political because it should not get dragged up to the Attic. I believe the pandemic is challenging all sectors.

This is why we all must work together so that we can go into our local coffee shop freely, buy a cup and be able to use the bathroom without being refused or interrogated.

I can't judge by something I haven't received, so if something is 'late' or simply doesn't arrive, I might not know until I get a 'past due/your electricity (or gas, or phone, or insurance, etc) is in arrears and is being shut off/cancelled as of yesterday. I do not now, nor have I for the past (almost) 30 years, received USPS mail at my actual residence. Since day two of living in the area in which I live, I've only ever received mail at a POB.

That said, I receive relatively little mail. Predominantly normal --and highly predictable-- monthly expense bills (electricity, gas, phone, etc.) that I've learned to 'expect' at certain times each month/year. Otherwise, there are the never ending Zero % credit card offers and other sundry BS that assure me I'll save million$ if only I'll sign up for.... which I immediately recycle. The bulk of my 'mailed' communications with the outside world is done electronically, and [knock on wood!!!] I'm not dependent on any part of my income to have arrived with a USPS stamp affixed to it, and [Thank You Great Spaghetti Monster In The Sky and who Rules Us All and Determines Our Destinies!] I do not rely on my friendly, neighborly Post Office --who knows me by name and place of residence-- Box to receive medications or anything intended to keep me alive.

But that's just me. Others that I know and communicate with on a regular basis --in other parts of the US-- are beginning to experience something very, very different. I'll stop here, because I don't mean to be the cause of your post being shuffled off to The Attic.

Yep, just to clarify, this was not intended to be a “political post” and don’t wish it to be in the attic - just curious if this is just my area and if you’re having similar issues, who are you complaining to?

I sell a product from home and have shipped by Priority Mail for about 9 years now. Until recently I got very reliable 2-3 day delivery anywhere in the US, with the very occasional delay of a day or two (but no package ever disappeared.) Recently, though delays seem to be happening more often. Had a package get to Ft Worth recently in 2 days, but then it sat in the Distribution Center for 4 more days, before taking another 2 days to move 25 miles to the customer's mailbox. That's the worst example so far, but several others have taken 4-5 days to arrive when they should have taken only 2-3.

I believe the pandemic is mostly to blame but the new chief is trying to cut back on the major money they are losing in the cost of providing service. You can't cut expense without impacting some services. I hope they get it worked out soon.

I have had problems with package deliveries lately. One item was missing for a month, and it was a floor lamp- not a small package!

Our issues started well before the virus.

For a few years, we had a very nice lady that delivered our mail... and every thing went great. We had a friendlier relationship with her than some of our neighbors. That was reassuring since we were away about half the time (campers) for several years.

Then end of last summer she retired and everything went weird. Don’t know when to expect delivery... sometimes as late as 8 pm. Rarely the same person 2 days in a row... one guy goes back and forth on our street like a confused wild man. We used to get a steady stream of at least junk mail, now couple of days with nothing followed by a mailbox full. I don’t think they replaced our dear sweet carrier, just adding our area to other people’s route, randomly. I have hope that a young lady we see occasionally will get our route, she delivers consistently before noon and is both professional and friendly when we are outside and see her.

I handle all our bills/payments on-line so no catastrophe... it is just mainly the erratic schedule that aggravates... and things are erratic enough I no longer mail anything important via our mail box... I drive it to the post office... and I have, when I have to go to the counter to send something, go to the local UPS store... to avoid the USPS long lines. Some things I send via UPS but a pre paid USPS package can be dropped off there as well.

No real problems in Fayetteville, NC. I did have a package that was due to arrive on Tuesday not get delivered until yesterday but that was the fault of DHL delivering late to the post office. Our delivery time depends on which mail carrier has the route. Our regular guy is usually here between 1 and 2 pm. If it's the woman substitute between 6 and 8 pm. One certain male sub comes between 4 and 6 but we have had mail everyday (except Sun, of course). One advantage to this is all the "steps" I get on my fitness tracker going out several times a day to check the box.

I do think the mail service is ridiculous when I mail a letter to someone here in Fay it first travels to Charlotte and then back to Fay.

I hope your situation straightens out soon.

Dodie

I had a package that they seemed to lose in Indianapolis for five days, then took an unconventional route via a branch post office near the airport instead of via the main post office. I believe incompetence was involved and they improvised - I doubt anything planned was involved.

No change in the excellent service we have enjoyed here in eastern NC. Our carrier always leaves a small dog bone with our mail for our little Rosie.

All is well here but slower.
In 2015 though our main hub was shut down with devastating effect to jobs but mail takes an average of two days longer as a result.
But since then it has been steady with no further changes.
