Is anyone else experiencing a precipitous drop in deliveries or late deliveries? We have had ONE delivery this week and none last Saturday in our neighborhood. Having lived at this address for >50 years, this is unprecedented. We LOVE our mail carrier, and I have to believe this is due to the recent cut in staffing, hours and equipment (7 mail sorting machines were removed from the Charlotte NC distribution center in the last few weeks without explanation). Is the intent to cripple the service to justify its dismemberment? If you’re having a similar experience, have you emailed or called your Senators and Congressmen in addition to your local postmaster? (I have) In my opinion, this is an outrage of national proportion.
Is anyone else experiencing a precipitous drop in ... (show quote)

I have noticed that some of the checks I mailed out for bills ahead of time ,still were 2 weeks late when I received late notices from the recipients the following month......not a good thing. I made some phone calls and was granted relief from the penalties when they reexamined the dates and postage handling stamps.....you just never really know anymore and can no longer rely on others for the simple privileges you took for granted.

A package I sent to Florida sat 8 days in the Opa Locka distribution center before being delivered. Instead of the normal 4 days to send a package to my sister it took 13 days.

I note this is due to shutting down lots of processing centers in about 2015 as happened here in Williamsport, PA. Devastated the hundreds who worked here and lost their jobs and it occurred across the country.

A nightmare for my household. So many packages arriving late. They have a routing of packages to distribution centers that make no sense. A package from Boulder Colorado being sent to Florida, first goes to a distribution center in Montana, that's so mind boggling? No wonder why the USPS is in so much trouble.

There is nothing out of the ordinary here; it’s business as usual.

USPS does have its problems. FYI: The "address" for a mailed item is for the most part the bar code, not the written/printed address. For several days I left a mis-delivered letter in the mail box with the flag up. The letter would be picked up and then several days latter it would return. Postman eventually told us that unless we covered the bar code, the letter would just keep coming back. This was a bit confusing to me because the letter didn't carry our street printed address. Also, I look at the USPS web site to see what mail I am to receive each day and while it is usually on the mark, not unusual for it to be wrong.

The USPS has been operating in the red for a long time. Losing billions of dollars per year. But they have a monopoly on first class mail, so I often wonder why they don't just charge what it takes to break even. They have a strange relationship to the federal government. They basically have to stay solvent on their own but the federal government keeps leveraging requirements on them that cost a lot of money. Then every once in awhile, the Fed offers them a few tidbits, like recently something to help with the pandemic. Back when they had a near monopoly on every form of mail except for Rail Express, they did alright. But now people have all sorts of ways to bypass USPS. Email, Facebook, and a host of similar ways to communicate with family and friends. Bills are now mostly paid by direct withdrawal from your bank account. Packages are mostly delivered by UPS, FedEx, and DHL. Their only exclusive delivery is first class mail. Not a good business model! Maybe it is time to bring them into the Federal government and fund them properly to just deliver first class mail. If they do anything else, it is on their dime.

Their mechanical system does seem to work well. A charity I send to provides stamps for return postage. I hate to waste it, so sometimes I use it for other purposes, carefully cutting the original address off and replacing it with the replacement - a bother, but seemingly the only reliable method.

We have noticed a slowdown in almost all agencies that do not have to worry about making a profit since Covid. Postal service, trash collection, DMV, public schools. But it’s interesting that businesses that have to make a profit are still performing well unless the government has shut them down or created some other hardship for them. Private schools are a great example. All are open for in person school here. But all public schools are doing virtual only.

Yes, and now mail within South Bend is sent an hour away to Fort Wayne to be sorted before coming back. But we easily absorbed that - it was not nearly like the loss of jobs like when Studebaker moved to Canada when I was in High School and I was competing with grown men feeding families for summer work. The real issue is how their reorganizations now will affect us now. My wife and I may have to hand-carry our ballots two miles to the County Clerk’s Office. We will if we have to.

It seem packages have slowed down form the Posy Office as well as UPS and FedEx. That is most likely due to the surge in buying by mail and not store shopping.

Smart...some of that Iowa Nice going on. Hope you survived the horrible storms. My family and friends lost some cornfields, but not nearly as bad as some.
