Lovely! Can I ask what body and lens you used?

I shot this vehicle with a Nikon D7200 and a 18-200mm 3.5-5.6 G II ED lens Gant.

Beautiful - the dream car of my youth. I so much wanted one of these but never had the money. Now more than half a century later I still don't have the money. Thank you for sharing.

Don't feel bad John, that makes 2 of us! Thanks for viewing and commenting.

I had one identical to the one in the photo. I was in CA. and purchased it in 1967 and although I still have the title the car was wrecked and I do think about it often. Yes it had the wire wheels and was also black and a beautiful car. I was young and foolish and it makes me sick to even think about it.
My Memories, David

I feel your pain Dalbon. I did not wreck it but still miss my Porsche Boxster. Too expensive to maintain in retirement.

I’m in love with this set of photos and the XK140 Jaguar. You have wonderfully captured and preserved the mirror like finish of this car. Great set!

Thank you very much Mario, it was a very beautiful car. I would think the owner puts in many hours of love into this vehicle.

During my youth my dad went thru a phase, British sport's car's. MG's the TC's and TD's, then an Austin Healy 3000, my favorite, then a series of Jag's . I went thru a Triumph Spitfire, Jag EKE with a Ford V-8 swap then switched to a Datsun240-Z that a Z car specialist up graded for street and autocross use. Used to autocross at the old Padres stadium in San Diego. Traded it for a Chevy Z car, then a pickup truck when I had to pull a horse trailer for team roping.

You did go thru your share Derryg!! Thanks for the story.

Back in the 50's Lucas was truly "The Prince of Darkness" but things got better over the years.
I bought a '74 TR-6 brand new ($4000 overseas delivery); drove it for about 32 years and never had a problem with it. I'm guessing that Lucas may have learned a thing or two. I'm sure that many of the electrical problems that today's buyers have are caused by previous owners who tried to "Improve" the Lucas electrical system. Photos taken about a year before I sold the car.

I have always loved them. A neighbor had a yellow XKE ragtop with a V12 when I was a kid. I've been in love with them since I first saw that car. For some reason I never got one. I drove (when it felt like it) a 1958 MGA while I was in college. It ran sometimes. Gotta love Lucas electrical and SU carbs. I learned how to sync the carbs and adjust the valves. If you didn't run through the carbs and valves every 2000 miles the car wouldn't run. And if you took a hard turn (can't remember which direction) the oil pump would suck air. I can't say I learned my lesson about ragtop sports cars. I drive a Nissan 370Z. The top won't go up or down, there's a squeak coming from the top storage compartment that sounds like old bedsprings, and the brakes squeal. But, like the MGA, it is a blast to drive. The Z's 332 hp is a heck of a lot more fun the the MG's 70. The old girl could barely make it up the hill on I-80 near the Highway 37 turnoff on the way to my Marine Corps reserve meetings in Alameda. Good times.

Thanks for triggering all those fond memories. I would never want to own another MG but if a clean XKE V12 came along for the right price ...

I shot a 1972 "E" Type V-12, will post it later 10MPlayer. I am sure you could find one but the question is the "right price"!!

Great capture Don on that XK140. I had a 64 XKE. Great Lucas electrical.

Many years ago I saw a bumper sticker that read: ” My refrigerator is a Lucas. It doesn’t work either.”

Hi Don and you are exactly right about the expense of maintaining these cars especially the Jag. I also had a 1987 Vandan Plas III, sorry but I'm not sure about spelling, anyway there was always something going wrong with it. I can say that it was a beautiful car with wrap around chrome bumpers and just about the last of the really nice Jags. Now that I'm retired I drive a more down to earth car.
Enjoy your ride, David

Howard, your old TR-6 is/was a beauty. First car I ever drove was my older sister's TR-3. What a rush! During my college years in Asheville, NC I bought one of my own. IMHO it was the perfect car for "bombing-around" on the Blue Ridge Parkway on a sunny day. At least it was perfect until one December night when some A-hole stole my top and side-curtains. Drove it around that winter sticking up through the opening in the tonneau cover. Felt like Jackie Stewart. Good times!
