Nantahalan Loc: Savannah originally; western NC now

As a native, who now lives in cooler WNC, I suggest taking a tour from the visitor center and history museum on MLK Boulevard. That’s the main visitor info place. The Old Town Trolly map route looks good. That’ll cover more ground more easily and help identify places you might want to revisit. Some tours allow you to get off as long as you like, boarding a subsequent vehicle.

Aside from the usual and wonderful places listed above, I suggest traveling Bull Street from city hall to at least the library. That’ll hit a lot of highlights. A favorite of mine is the Gingerbread House, built in Steamboat Gothic style by Cord Asendorf (sp?). When I talked with his son sitting on its front porch, it didn’t have a spec of paint. That would have been around 1958.

You might find it helpful to have a good map and a guidebook. If you know someone there, they could run by the visitors center for all manner of maps, guides, and brochures. Visit Savannah.com has an excellent assembly of photos and articles past all the Covid preamble stuff.

Enjoy your trip!

Goldstar has given you an exceptional tour. But not having any information from you (OP) regarding your interests; we all might as well just read from any old guide book. I prepared well ahead of time for our trip, trying to minimize wasted travel time by combining my areas of interest based on proximity, open hours for visitation, best time of day, and places to eat. Our group of 4 for 3 days and 2 only for two days-- managed to do everything on our list. And, we will return. There are places that are memorable and photogenic. Bonaventure when they open to the public is not the same time they open for tours. Wormsloe, while not only breathtaking, gives you a wonderful understanding of the the history of Savannah and the people who came from England to settle and create our 13th colony. Fort Jackson and Tybee Island give you a field of vision not found inside the city. It helps to give you perspective for your entire visit to Savannah. The dynamic culture and beliefs are not better illustrated by visiting the Cathedral Basilica of St. John's the Baptist to Temple Congregation Mickve Israel, and the First African Baptist Church. A private tour through the squares and significant historical homes brings one to appreciate who we are and how we got here.
There is so much more to Savannah than just taking pictures. Their context are windows into our national soul.
Enjoy your trip.

Some of the old cemeteries are pretty cool. I've seen headstones with little riddles of how the person passed away. Very nice area.

When there, I visited the water front and took a guided walking tour of the old town, camera in hand. I went on a ferryboat ride on the Savannah River. You will see a version of America in its earlier development under capitalism. I liked hearing Southerners speaking English with a Southern accent.

I suggest you do a little planning before you go.

walk along the river front early in the morning. Any of the squares are great. The city is small and you can walk the entire area in a couple of hours. I hired a photo guide and it was well worth it.

I was up in that area about 8 years back the plazas around the city are exteamaly photographic. One place that I was at was Fort Pulaski National Monument which you can see the lighthouse on Tybee Island and also one that is still standing just a short hike from the fort. The old downtown district along the river is great for shooting as well. There are literally 100's of areas to shoot in the city.

It's been a long time since I was there but IIRC, there's a park down in the S end that's on the water. Had a lot of fun shooting there plus it's a short walk to some magnificent old homes. Plus some good restaurants. Harry

The city is full of beautiful historical sites. Just get out of your car, take camera, and start walking. Also, my wife enjoyed visiting the Girl Scout National HQ and place where it started.

Now for food, get reservations at The Olde Pink House. The food is excellent. The shrimp and grits are to die for!

Also the Wilk's House is great food and a landmark. Old style boarding house approach. Get there early!

The suggest to go to Tybee Island is a good one too. Climb the lighthouse and get quite a view.

Allow at least two days if not three.

Enjoy.

Never heard of a “Photo Guide.” How do you find such a person?

On a different note; make sure to have either breakfast or lunch at Ms. Wilks Boarding House downtown. You will not forget it, and go hungry!

Since I'm not from that state I googled Georgia shooting and here is what came up.
