Try Google Chrome, it works just like the older versions of Windows, been using it for a long time and been happy with it.

Jack

??? Chrome is a browser not an operating system. Chrome is similar to Internet Explorer, Edge, or Firefox.

Yes and no. There is a Chrome OS which you can buy pre-installed on a computer. Several major vendors sell them. Your second sentence is correct but your first one is only partly correct.

Hi, I am not well versed on computer techniques. I am/was very comfortable with Windows 7 photo. Hate windows 10. Is there a better option? I do have Google photos. Don't use it much and for me it hasn't been easy to have all the photos in just one place. I am trying to keep photos in folders by subjects..

Windows 7 is not going to stop working! You just need to know what you are doing in order to keep it safe from virus's and malware. A lot of us are still using windows 7 and I also still use windows XP Pro because of some software that I still use a lot.

There are alternatives to Windows 10, like Linux, if you want to change EVERYTHING you do, IF you can do everything you do. Seems drastic just because you miss Photo Viewer.
You could switch to MacOS for a lot of money in new hardware. And relearning apps. Also pretty drastic.

Did you do an upgrade-in-place from 7 to 10 (not a fresh install of 10, or getting a new computer with 10)? If so, there is a way to get back the use of the Photo Viewer app you had in 7.

Respond to this and I will find it and post it.

I have said it before, no one should be forced to accept updates to their system by the software company. Read the terms of use for Windows (no one does) and you will see that you don't own that software, they are just letting you use it. AS LONG AS YOU LET THEM TELL HOW YOU CAN USE IT! Linux lets you use the software how you choose, even so far as being able to modify it to your specific needs if you have the skills to do so. I still cannot understand why anyone would let a software company take over their digital lives in this way.
I have said it before, no one should be forced to ... (show quote)

Apparently Microsoft has joined Google in collecting information - some of us are not interested in contributing.

First of all I was commenting too dirtdancer and not you, but since you injected An opinion I really don’t care if you are interested or not.

Microsoft has been for many years collecting information, so your paranoia has no bearing on my comment.

Go create your own thread/topic on Google/Microsoft.

I teach high school and have hard time keeping up with all the changes. The Adobe products have all gone to Windows 10. I have struggled to create packages that will be compatible with Windows 7 and 8.

I was amazed to find this site that walked me through the upgrade for free. It worked for all but one machine but did take longer than 2minutes

As long as you guys are talking about Adobe products, might I ask does the Adobe Creative Cloud Desktop program cause your PSP LTR or your browsers to slow down. I am asking because twice now in a week it has caused that to happen to me. It would not allow FireFox to open and Adobe Creative came on screen stating it needed to be repaired and just cycled through the repair and hung up. Has anyone used the Creative Cloud Cleaner? Does it self clean? New to Win10 and just working with the changes from Win7. I do not like the Microsoft Store always wanting more money. Thanks for the thread. Larry

But your computer still runs the way that Microsoft wants it to run; and they get too much of your info from your computer. Alexa is another gimmick that should be banned! I was at my neighbors house the other night and we were talking about some health issues he is having. I asked him a question about something and a damned alexa (whatever the he77 you call them) suddenly woke up and answered the question that I had asked him. It kind of shocked both of us. Neither one of us knew just what to say so I finally looked at him and said, "you know that damn thing is listening to what you say don't you"? Too much invasion unto people's lives!

A return opinion - I wish you would care that people are collecting information. Information has value - that is not paranoia .... it is a fact that is relevant to this thread.

W 10 photo doesn’t allow folders in a format I like.
Way too many clicks to accomplish activities
Not intuitive at all.
Too large and cumbersome
Can’t modify, edit, make notes, access, look up items, download pictures easily, download anything easily.
7 is still better. The improvements aren’t worth the losses.

My experience exactly. Keeping 7 on our desktops until they collapse.

For what is worth, I used to be upset like you when I upgraded my old laptop to “free” Win 10. That was 2016. Now I would not go back. Never. Since that time I have three workstations running Win 10 server. One workstation is an Apple laptop, one workstation is Win 7 (required to keep my slide scanner running. The third is the computer I use most of the time. The server has 6 disks totaling 25 GB. The disks are melded and mirrored. This is important to prevent data loss. Win 10 is not the demon. You may have to relearn how to do somethings. I think Win 10 is so very much better than Win 7.

I am not complaining about Windows 10 at all. I ran into a few problems with it but mainly because my hardware is old and sometimes when it's updated the old drivers don't work any more. Overall it's stable and not slower than the older OS running the same hardware. Don't think it's faster either though.

Well I guess I must ask how old is your computer
And as I stated mine is 7 years old and came out just fine,
and what type CPU, how much memory are running, are you still running off an old HD, have you cleaned out old files your not using anymore and possibly optimized you hard drive and turned off nonessential programs running in the background?

I agree with many others here who give their preference to Windows 10....it really is much better. But if you prefer the look and feel of Windows 7, and can spare $5.00, try program called "Start 10" from Stardock, at: https://www.stardock.com/products/start10/

It makes Windows 10 look like Windows 7 but keeping the kernel and security (better) of Windows 10.

I opened up your link to "Stardock" and got a warning from Malwarebytes that the site was phishing my connection to this site. Be careful!
