I went from Vista to Win 10 with no problems. Faststone is very easy to set up individual files. Also free and more versatile than picasa. My .02

I suggest that you bite the bullet and become better versed in "computer techniques" or you will constantly find yourself paddling around in circles. In one sense, I view digital cameras as a computer accessory. The more knowledge you have about how your computer operates the better off you will be.

Indeed many love W-7, but W-10 is the new internet and new program base that most have.

Solution when using your comfort W-7 on a Hard disk ... isolate it from the internet. Use a separate system for internet searches and communication. My computer has an external HD connection, and it would allow me to switch easily like pull W-7 disk off and put the W-10 on and boot.

You said you do not have much computer expertise so that swap is a simple ploy

I agree with Al Beatty, I have the shell and love it... all my programs are listed in alphabetic groups and then click on Ashampoo and there is a list of those programs. Simple and quick.

I do find I was at a bit of a lost when switching to Windows 10 but in time I get used to it. It's not any worse or better than the older system. I used Classic Shell for a while but I removed it because I don't like to stack another software layer on the OS. Alternative to Windows 10? Mac OS, Linux and they can be better but I am sure I will be lost in the beginning so it's really easier to learn Windows 10.

I teach high school and have hard time keeping up with all the changes. The Adobe products have all gone to Windows 10. I have struggled to create packages that will be compatible with Windows 7 and 8.

I was amazed to find this site that walked me through the upgrade for free. It worked for all but one machine but did take longer than 2minutes

Hi, I am not well versed on computer techniques. I am/was very comfortable with Windows 7 photo. Hate windows 10. Is there a better option? I do have Google photos. Don't use it much and for me it hasn't been easy to have all the photos in just one place. I am trying to keep photos in folders by subjects..

I don’t understand why people don’t like Windows 10, For what it’s worth it’s the most stable OS I’ve used since the beginning of Microsoft in my opinion. Just a few days ago I just updated my notebook computer, I installed a Samsung EVO SSD the boot time is so darn fast and connecting to the internet is fast, I can’t hardly believe how fast this seven year old notebook is. So I will soon be updating my wife’s Toshiba notebook.

Win10 is wonderful Operating System don’t sell it short.

W 10 photo doesn’t allow folders in a format I like.
Way too many clicks to accomplish activities
Not intuitive at all.
Too large and cumbersome
Can’t modify, edit, make notes, access, look up items, download pictures easily, download anything easily.
7 is still better. The improvements aren’t worth the losses.

Make sure you are in "Desktop" mode and not "Tablet" mode.
Also make sure Windows 10 is up to date

Try Google Chrome, it works just like the older versions of Windows, been using it for a long time and been happy with it.

Jack

Since Google makes their profit selling information, I chose to go with Linux.

Apparently Microsoft has joined Google in collecting information - some of us are not interested in contributing.

I'm not sure what you mean by "doesn't allow folders in a format that you like". What format do you like? I upgraded from 7 to 10 in January and find it easier to use and much faster than 7. As far as downloading items, it works just like 7. As far as look up, the search feature is very fast. I haven't seen anything that I cannot modify or edit. So I am wondering what you think you are losing. I am not being condescending. I am just curious.

I agree with many others here who give their preference to Windows 10....it really is much better. But if you prefer the look and feel of Windows 7, and can spare $5.00, try program called "Start 10" from Stardock, at: https://www.stardock.com/products/start10/

It makes Windows 10 look like Windows 7 but keeping the kernel and security (better) of Windows 10.

Yes there are options. I switched to MacOS in 2005 and I have been very happy with it. YMMV.

My Windows 10 Pro looks very much like 7 on boot up without any additional apps.

I am not complaining about Windows 10 at all. I ran into a few problems with it but mainly because my hardware is old and sometimes when it's updated the old drivers don't work any more. Overall it's stable and not slower than the older OS running the same hardware. Don't think it's faster either though.
