I'm not sure if Energizer still makes 3rd party ones, but it was nice to have a company with offices in the USA and a toll free number.

I only use the “official” batteries. I usually have two. Against the cost of the camera and lenses, the extra cost for a “real” battery is minimal. And I don’t worry about it working properly.

I never had any issues with batteries of any type. It's a battery for crying out loud. Brand stuck people are throwing away good money.

Buy 3 for the price of one is a no brainer. ALL OEM products cost more because that is the way they do it. Gotta keep the cash flow and marking parts and accessories up 100 to 300% is a cash cow for them. I have been using generic batteries for 8 years and NEVER have had any issues with them. Most likely the batteries are all made at the same and just stamped differently. Worry too much over non important things or non existent.

I usually apply simple math to these issues. If it is half the cost and performs only 90% as well and lasts 80% as long ............ then I get better than 75% performance for 50% of the money.
I do try to stay away from Chinese crap on principle.
I have some Vivitar batteries that are great. I personally have had some Wasabi that just didn't hold up well. Everyone has their own story.
It is like the toner cartridges here at the office. OEM is 5 times as much. Occasionally I have to toss one straight in the trash out of the box but at 5 for the money I don't get upset.

72% but the point is valid.

I bought another backup Canon battery this past July from B&H. Today it will only take a 51% charge. I called Canon for a replacement and they told me that accessories are not guarantied. After arguing with a supervisor, they agreed to send me a new battery as a courtesy.

I was told by a Canon rep that batteries had a 6 month warranty. It makes me wonder, maybe it’s a bustle in your hedgerow...

I've heard of a "BUSTLE in your hedgerow," (Led Zeppelin's oblique reference to sexual arousal in "Stairway to Heaven,") but "rustle in the hedgerow"? What's the reference?

I prefer using OEM Nikon batteries. Have one starting it’s 15th year in my D50. I have two Promaster batteries bought in a pinch two years ago during
the holidays as backups. They seem ok too but not worth the savings compared to the Nikons.

Oh really?

I can say this the battries I use are Wasabi I use in my 7D canon, 5D. They are rated higher then Canon’s own OEM battries and the charge last longer .

I have four Canon bodies and they all use the LP6. I have Watson, Wasabie, Dawa and have seen no difference except shots per battery. My genuine Canons seem to be the first that fail to give full recharge performance and all the third party ones report status in camera.

I have been using Wasabi batteries for years. Never a problem and they seem to hold a charge as long if not longer than the Canon batteries.

l do have a couple of Wasabi's as extras to my extra 5 OEM Panasonic FZ1000 batteries, and my travel partner has 2 extra OEM Panasonic FZ300 batteries (same battery). Just seems I get more shots from the OEM's.

Price of OEM worth it to me when we're traveling 2 months in foreign countries. While we hit the big cities, we also spend time in the mountains and small towns and villages. While I do do repeat visits (Zhangjiajie 3 times, Harbin Ice Festival twice), most of the time it is one and done. Last thing I want to do is to be trying to find a battery for our cameras. I add peace of mind to the cost/benefit ratio and OEM is worth it to me.

Well after reading all the comments and stories about third part batteries I have decided to just bite the bullet and spend the extra for a real Canon battery. Not a deal if the battery give less shots, does not work right with camera or damages/destroys the camera. I really like my Canon 80D and want it to last. An extra $25 for an OEM Canon battery and peace of mind is not asking too much.

My only experience is a Watson for my Canon Power Shot, pocket camera. I've had no problems with it for 3 years now, but have noticed that when not in use, it doesn't last as long as the Canon battery.
