This reminds me of the butterball Turkey. For years and years I would buy a large butterballl Turkey for Thanksgiving. Finally one day my brother in law got old enough to work and landed a job at a large food chain and got an off brand turkey which I cooked together with my butterball cause now the family is bigger and in need of 2 turkeys. I carved and served the off brand first telling everyone that it was the butterball. When they went through the off brand they started complaining that the other one wouldn't taste as good.after devouring the real butterball I asked if they liked it.they couldn't tell the difference. So people, get over it unless you love throwing your money away. Some off brand batteries are just as good but not all of them so that is why you can come to the ugly hedgehogs for answers. That's why we are here .

I have the Canon 80D. I only have one Canon battery and would like another battery. The Canon is quite expensive and I will pay it if need be. Anyone have experiences with Watson or Wasabi batteries? Not worth saving 50% if they do not work as well as a real Canon battery. I am asking here as I do not trust reviewers to tell the absolute truth since they are being compensated ...........

Thanks

I've used 3rd party batteries in my 80D since I bought it, as well as in my 5DMk4, with no problems. I have Promaster.

I've had a Canon 80D for over 3 years and bought a pair of Wasabi batteries for backup for about half the price of one Canon battery. I don't use them very often, because I get a LOT of shots with the Canon battery. When I am shooting at the sports car races, I usually get well over 2,000 shots with the Canon battery and I can't tell the difference with the Wasabi batteries. I suspect I get so many photos because I often shoot in burst mode; a typical day results in around 2,000 photos. One reason I bought the Wasabi batteries (other than cost) was that they came with a charger that plugs into a normal wall outlet and also included an adapter to plug into the 12V outlet in the car; very handy when you are out and about. I recently bought a Canon G5X MK II for traveling and bought a pair of Wasabi batteries for it for about half the cost of one Canon battery; especially important because the camera drains batteries pretty fast. I can't tell the difference between the Canon and Wasabi batteries. Besides the 110V and 12V capability of the charger, it also works in Europe and included the European adapter plug; very handy for a travel camera.

haven't had a problem with Watson or Wasabi batteries. Only battery I had that went bad was a Canon branded battery.
