Don’t tell the ground troops calling for close in air support that it is ugly! Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder. The warthog was designed for one primary thing and nothing does it better. (Retired Ait Force).

Excellent shot of a beautiful aircraft. I got numerous shots of one last year at the Waco Texas airshow.
There was one or two of them and they demonstration flights which show the power, beauty and effectiveness of this bird. If you would like me to, I will did up some photos and post them.

Nice shot and thanks for the memory , I worked with , on occasion this beautiful bird . Back in the mid 70's I was a scope dope in a mobile radar unit . The skill of the folks who fly these ground pounders is amazing and that is what made them so useful . When you think of air battle you normally think dog fights in the sky but with the hog it supported our troops on the ground and there for traveled at speeds that boggle the mind while screaming along the deck picking out that needle in the hay stack , tanks , buildings and other targets while dodging or not , all types of shrapnel being hurled at them . I remember a pilot once mentioning over the com to a wing man at the size of a bird in the top of a tree , yup doing 100s of miles an hour that close to mother earth . Thank you for your service to all who worked with the warthog !

Was it actually lit from beneath or is that just the processing?

The retreating Iraqi army had the misfortune of seeing the Warthog up close and personal on the “Highway of Death” in Kuwait.

One of the best weapons in our arsenal. Factor in cost and it's possibly the number one weapon we have. It's ridiculous to spend a trillion dollars on a new platform when brand new A-10's could be built, with state of the art systems, at least a dozen for one on the same cost.

Love to watch these things fly. While working in Tuscon (many year ago), I had a great view of David-Mothan AFB out my office window. Would watch the pilots practice low level combat manouvers throughout the day. They may look ugly, but they fly gracefully.

Didi anyone else notice the crow flying about the warthog?

Mike

Not a crow, it is a buzzard waiting to pick what ever is left. LOL (really is a Buzzard!)
