Great shot. I read that the A-10 racked up quite a record in Desert Storm so naturally the USAF needs to
jettison it much like the S.A.C. was a few years back.

We did sorta they were converted AC-47 Puff the Magic Dragon and were also called spooky. The only thing is they didn't fly in da weeds and carried mini guns, although effective and nasty they were not as effective as the Wart Hog....
You forgot to mention the Spector AC-130 gunship.

I have seen the results of an AC-130 attack up close and personal (at night) and my opinion is that not one living thing survives in the attack area. it must be truly terrifying to be on the incoming end of its fire.

Yeah I think that sums it up.

One of the best weapons in our arsenal. Factor in cost and it's possibly the number one weapon we have. It's ridiculous to spend a trillion dollars on a new platform when brand new A-10's could be built, with state of the art systems, at least a dozen for one on the same cost.
The F35 joint strike fighter is supposed to replace the A10. What a joke. You want to risk a $100-million aircraft to do what the A10 was designed to do?
It ain't slim, and it ain't sleek, but it's the greatest ground support plane ever. Jim-pops - It was the Air Force that tried to shut down the A-10. In fact, the AF has tried to shut it down for over 20 years. It's the government (Congress) that has kept it alive. The Army and Marines love that plane.

Great aircraft. Government wanted to shut this aircraft down, military fought to save it. I just read where they are refitting all sorts of new electronics to this plane along with new wings and armament. This will keep it in operation for several more years.
Actually you have it backwards, The congress saved it when the Airforce who wanted to make a F16 into its replacement. Not once but multiple times. Airforce wants fast fighters and bombers and high tech stuff. If the Key West agreement hadn't happened the Army would be flying them providing their own close air support. And they would have had better transport aircraft instead of having to rely on the air force.
In a pinch, nothing beats Air!

Let the Marines (& Army) have the ugly piglet, I'm sure they know a good thing when they see it. So what if it's not sleek, sexy and fast, it does an amazing job on what it was designed for!
The light does make it look like it may be flying over snow, but great capture and detail.
UGLY?? Who you callin' ugly you punk-ass twits??!! Show some respect or I'll show you what us boys can really do!!
A great photo showing an even greater aircraft. The A10 is a ground soldiers lifesaver and they love her.

That is a great shot. I can almost hear the roar as it flies overhead! Thanks for sharing it.
I really like the Warthog. My son was a crew chief on one for a couple of years. They are just fascinating. Too bad their service was reduced.
