Time for my granddaughter to get into photography ( on yearbook staff in high school) I'm going to give her my Nikon D7000 w/ 18 to 140 Nikon lens. Problem, what to replace it with ? I already have the D800 I use primarily for scenics and a D7100 w/ 80 - 400 for wildlife. The D7000 was my out in the woods hunting or out on the water fishing camera. I'm thinking of the D7500 w/ either an 18 - 140 or an 18 - 300. Thoughts ? from anyone with either combination of a better suggestion ? thanks

Sounds like you may be a well seasoned, experienced Photographer yourself, and you may be looking to your Granddaughter to carry-on your Love of Photography. But it is, as you must realize, she must Learn the basics of real Photography to be Successful. That means understanding the "foundation" of real DSLR Photography, "The Exposure Triangle". How to aquire a "Proper Exposure". Also, will she appreciate the real difference between DSLR or Possibly Mirrorless Photography and just using a Smartphone? Yes they both capture and image, although the former requires some Learning and aquired Skill, which takes time & Patience. This is just MY opinion.

Let me just go back to ollie's original thought on gifting his granddaughter.
You are a kind and generous grandparent for passing on this camera. It's a great camera, and you have a number of great replacement options suggested by many over these nine pages.
Your granddaughter may show interest, may revert to her phone, or may become the next Imogen Cunningham. It's all good.
No, she doesn't need to know about the exposure (so-called) triangle UNLESS she wants to. She doesn't need to push the gear frontier or learn any more about any of the words Silveralls apparently capitalized or put quotation marks around to show their importance. She needs to learn what kind of images she likes, and enough about technical stuff (whether on her phone or high end camera) to begin achieving photos she is happy with. She may be inspired to delve more deeply into photography, or she may not. Either is fine, and if she makes images she's happy with, you've done your part to help her.
I've always said, it doesn't matter what your kids or grands are interested in. If they are interested in following your interests, encourage them, but don't push them. May she enjoy the gift and continue to enjoy photography.

Well, I've been accused of being a wise GUY, at times, and I'm a man, so maybe that qualifies.
Thanks for the kind words!
