I have mobility issues although, I push myself daily and am up to most of a mile a day. I do have to use a cane. Due to health issues, I can't drive right now and, I don't have a vehicle.
We do have a municipal park, but it is more of a picnic spot and really isn't scenic.

My Dr. Has told me that most likely I'll be able to drive by Summer of 2020. While I'm happy about that, I hate car shopping. I'm not complaining, mind you, I just miss using my camera. I do thank God for the blessings I do have. Now, I just need to find a local Church that is like the one that I went to as a youngster. I think it's gonna be hard to find.

Anyway, I apologize for rambling on.

I'm sorry for the difficulty you're going through, but I have to disagree that you don't have access to things worth photographing. The potential for a great photograph can be found almost anywhere if you have the eye and the imagination to recognize it and the skill to capture it.

The responses I have read, by and large, show an understanding of and identification with those with limitations, temporary or otherwise. It did me good just seeing the kindness so many showed to another. Thank you all

To the OP!

I'm not a psychologist but my advice is not to confuse depression with boredom. OK- I know that having health issues ain't fun but keeping your creative mind active is very therapeutic and fun too!
May I suggest a great photographic "indoor sport" that you can play while you are recovering. It's called still life and table-top photography and it can be done with just about any stuff you find around the house. If you have some lighting gear you can use it or just use window light, lamplight or available light.

The game is finding a theme or an imaginative idea based on whatever stuff you can find and go for it. Find design elements and shapes. Create an advertisement for the item!

A photography student of mine, found himself home-bound with an illness so to keep him in the creative mood, we cleaned out is "junk drawer" and found an old Disk-man CD Player and decided to make it look like kinda "space age". The CDs looked very interesting under light form a desk lamp too. Old pottery, foodstuffs, and just about anything can make a good still life if you find the lines and do a little very creative post-processing. I'll post a few examples for you, including the Halloween theme we did just a few days ago with light from an overhead lamp on the kitchen table.

I hope this helps! Get well soon and before long you'll be driving around shooting landscapes, wildlife, and pretty ladies again! Time moves faster when you are having fun

Now- start doing your homework and post some images!

Have you tried macro? There are a lot of folks who do macro inside their home or at least not requiring great landscapes to shoot.

I would suggest this as well. You're not governed by cold weather or rainy weather. If saving your sanity is important, you have to change your ways otherwise everything will stay the same.

Ramble on, Bob. I agree that you should try macro. It will cheer you up some.

To Bob, I would suggest checking to see if there any churches in your area that have a "Celebrate Recovery" group and check it out as I'm sure you could find a ride. You can find a list of groups online.

To jtlouden, thanks for the tip on the book. My $10 gift card from MS for using Bing was burning a hole in my pocket and that gave me an outlet.

Thanks for the tip on recovery programs. The main reason I moved to this apartment, is that I access to most things I need. Well, within my daily walks anyway. This town has excellent transportation at an affordable price.

Thank you. I appreciate that. God will answer prayers but, the person praying has to do their share of the work.

When I started learning photography, my high school teacher told all of us in class that everything we see is a photograph worthy of pressing a shutter. It may not be a work of art but capable of inspiring others in their work. But I was a smart a$& and asked a question. I asked him what if one of us goes blind suddenly. Then what? I was surprised to hear my teacher come back with you photograph what you hear now. So try it! I got a blind fold and laid down on the ground in the park. My attempts were poor or so I thought. I ended up taking a rather blurry photograph of a beer bottle and a school bus. It won a class award. Don't be saddened by your present condition. Use it to motivate yourself to doing something different and possibly unique and inspiring. As for a Church, they are not all the same. It may take some time to explore that option. Oh! Wait! Is that a Synagogue nearby I see. Oh! Wait! It's Chanukah. I just bought a star filter. Let me try it out!

You should hear some thoughts fire off in your mind. No! I'm not talking about the one's that say I've lost my marbles!

Have fun dear friend.

Happy Shooting!

Bob, you've got great suggestions already. One more is to try your hand at "Trick" photography there are some really easy to do and creative photographs you can take at home. For example I recently played around photographing smoke generated by two incense sticks and also photographed strawberries and other small fruit dropped into a small fish tank of water the setup was very simple for both and a lot of fun plus the results were quite good. So there's much more that can be done at home maybe search on you tube for creative ideas for photographing thing near and around you. Good luck with your health and hopefully you will be mobile again very soon

We all feel saddened that one of our own is in the situation in which you find yourself. There is no way we can help you medically; only time, patience, and your medical professionals can do that. Do know that many of us can identify and empathize with what you are experiencing. Personally, I hope you will find some of the suggestions others have made above will prove appealing. They sound well worth considering and maybe trying. Good luck w/ that. In the meantime, hang in there; time will pass and next Spring/Summer will allow you more freedom. It will come.
