I suspect it's just a matter of time until they close the sales tax loophole with PayBoo.

These all laughably insignificant vs the $4,400,000,000,000 annual Federal budget in 2019 ($4.4 trillion), as in 0.0005% for your combined cited items except Mueller's investigation that paid for itself with the felony conviction and real estate forfeiture of Paul Manafort, Campaign Chairman ... Government waste is real. I'm not saying it isn't. But, one person's vital program is another person's waste and nibbling around 0.0005% is not going to accomplish anything. You're not even a rounding error on a rounding error.

A few million here, a few million there and pretty soon you are talking about real money. You have to start somewhere and remember the money is/was ours.

If B&H sends in the tax due, I don't think the state will care who "pays" it.

I agree. The OP should take note of this and wonder why the thread has digressed into so many tangential matters. I believe I know why: because B&H Payboo is old news. I think it’s been almost a year now since it debuted. I have a Payboo account and it works fine. NEXT TOPIC?

The tax is paid to the states. It's BH that pays it for you. The states have no say who pays it, as long as it's paid.

But using PayBoo and purchase from B&H you still pay the sales tax but it's B&H pays for you.

NYC Sales Tax = 8.875%, are you that rich?

I noticed they moved the decimal point to 3 digit numbers. NYC didn't want to give you a break, and charge 8.8%. But didn't want to charge you 8.9% either. That' higher than what I pay in California. Sooner, or later, you'll be paying a flat 9%. I bought most of my camera gear from B&H. About 80%. And, before the online sales tax rule went into effect, I was paying no sales tax, and free shipping on purchases over $49. Those good old days are over. But, I don't buy much from them anymore, like I have done for the past 10 years. I pay over 8% sales tax. But, it varies from County to County in California.

What if you buy a $5000 lens?

If I were able to buy a $5,000 lens the tax would be no problem...

I went for it. Applied for credit with their PayBoo credit card and waited for a confirmation on the credit.

Made a purchase and then when it posted with Synchrony Bank I paid for the total purchase online as I usually do. The payment posted WITHOUT the sales tax. I am in Connecticut so that is 6.35%.

If its paid before the end of the billing cycle they eat the tax. The purchase amount is posted without sales tax. If you pay after the billing cycle then the sales tax is added. Not sure how it works with monthly payments as an option.

I would recommend that if you apply and set this up, be mindful of the billing cycle so you have enough time to pay. If you mail a check it goes to Florida so you have to be aware of this. For me I payed electronically.

Just mentioning this as sales tax can add up to a hefty amount. I was skeptical of how it worked but after a bit of beginner confusion it went very smoothly.

I think not all states can qualify for this but if you are interested there is a link or two on their B&H homepage to check it out.

Again just FYI.

It works the same as PAYPAL credit, which is now through Synchrony Bank also. Good alternative if you were planning to use a CC and not pay it off all at once. Make the payments by due dates for interest free in 6 months (or 12 depending on amount of purchase). How can you beat it.

In this program by B&H, they pay the tax. Nobody is dodging. It's simply a promotional tool.

Hi Linda,

I hope this finds you and yours well. You are and others who have similarly stated are quite correct in that B&H pays all required taxes on a any Payboo purchase. The ideal way to buy with Payboo is to make sure you pay for your Payboo purchase in full in the time allotted so as not to incur interest charges, late fees, etc.

Our Payboo Card has been well received by our customers and is steadily growing in popularity. Since I got my Payboo card my dining room looks like the B&H Warehouse! It's like getting an additional 8.75% discount (NYC Sales Tax) off our already low prices.

Anyone seeking more information about the card can send an email to Henry Posner at henryp@bhphoto.com

All the best.

HERSHEL
