It is time for me to replace my rather beat-up iPhone 6 and I am looking at one of the new 11's. I look on it as my next photography upgrade. I would be quite happy if there was a way to disable the phone part since all I seem to get are scam calls selling me car warranties or threatening that the IRS is on the way to arrest me.

These new iPhones, not only take good photos, they have (free photo apps) you can download. I have two which I find excellent, one will identify flowers and leaves on trees, and the other will identify insects..amazing.

"scam calls selling me car warranties or threatening that the IRS is on the way to arrest me" That's good!

I went to a phone photography seminar a few weeks ago an a chunk of the demo was about Snapseed.

Not to be outdone, those Adobe $10 a month plan subscribers get excellent phone apps included. My phone photos are on my computer in Lightroom Classic before I get home to look at them.

Just wait, even worse are the political surveys about to start.

That raises a question. If you take a photo with a phone and process it with a PP app, can you say it is SOOC?
Hmmm. Maybe that should be a separate thread.

I had a great step-dad for 30 years. Among his qualities was a sharp sense of humor. He got a bad case of cancer in his 80s and fully accepted death was sooner rather than later. One of his perverse pleasures was junk calls. He'd listen and then say things like, "I think I'm going to die in three months, can I get a 1/4 annual subscription?" Or, 'I'm dying, can I vote now?"

Ok so I have an old phone. An embarrassment to my kids and grand kids. But old people are quirky. I have been looking at the new phone, main interest is in the camera. Havn't had a point and shoot in many years. The reviews all say ... incredible, amazing, terrific, and so on. Eh, to much hype but no substance. You can see examples but they are small can't really discern the quality. Even Outdoor Photographer "review" was a non review.
So does anybody have any 1st hand knowledge or a real review of the camera in the Iphone 11. Any good, just a bunch or marketing or something in between.

Cell phone photos are awesome, it is hard for most of us to admit but the software running those cameras is just a bit smarter than most of us are with our DSLR's and the images from the cell phones can be better than we are with our DSLR's... I may get slammed for saying that but the proof is in the pudding so to speak and I have watched novices create great images and videos with their phones and they have no clue about how to operate a camera.

Go for the Google pixel 4 cheaper and just as good. Look on Omar Gonzales you tube post. One scene compared to a Sony 6400 actually looks better. This is from my Huawei p20pro it was unbelievably dark at the time and although it is very processed it shows what modern phones are capable of.

I have a Google pixel 3a which takes great photos. Write up for this phone's camera is very good and it's only $400. I"ll never buy a Samsung phone again due to the "bloatware" they come loaded with.

My medicare card says I am an old guy, but i am a relative newbie (5 years or so) in digital DSLR photography. An iPhone 11 Pro is on my Xmas list. Despite my best intensions, i do not have a camera with me at all times, and it kills me to be in a situation in which I would have liked to have one. I DO carry my phone at all times, and the new iPhone seems to be capable enough to fill in the gaps.

Just got my wife the iPhone 11 Pro --- am pretty impressed with the cameras (there's three of them).
The telephoto is much better than my Samsung Galaxy 8, though the wide angle isn't as 'wide' as I thought it might be (doesn't stand up to the 10mm on my D500).

The video is also really good.

Oh, and it's not just a camara BTW - it's also a pretty loaded little handheld computer...

... and it even makes and receives phone calls!

I bought the Apple 11 Pro Max and I love the photos. However, I take photographs only for my own enjoyment and to periodically send to family. It is so easy to use and the editing features are wonderful. I still take my Nikon 7200 on trips but this cell phone is a great supplement to have and is with me at all times; thereby letting me capture scenes when I don't have my camera with me.

I have the iPhone 11 Pro. Upgraded from a 7+. A world of difference. Battery lasts far longer, up to almost 3 days for me. The camera is tremendous. Google for reviews.

What you get really depends on what you need. The iPhone will make a fairly large print 8 by 10 or 11 by 14. for the cost of the iPhone you could get a good point and shoot camera or even a DSLR put it in automatic mode and you have another point and shoot that you can advance with and get off of the automatic mode as you learn. I guess I'll are would be a little big to carry around all the time, a cell phone is convenient in the pocket. If all you need is a phone then your answer is already there, spend the money on a camera. I have a pretty powerful cell phone myself and I use for a lot of stuff as somebody already stated I use it for tracking a lot of stuff I have word processor on it spreadsheet so I can have my medications with me at all the time etc, and although I do take a photo with it once in awhile, I post anything from it.

You could print a full resolution iPhone photo at a typical 8″ x 10″ or 11″x 14″ at 300dpi (and probably larger) with no problems. Check out the chart below for more specific sizes and resolutions.

That phone has a 12mp sensor, 1/3.6 in.
