I updated yesterday. I have a very new iMac (March). Everything is working perfectly. I was scared this morning after reading of Photoshop and Lightroom problems, but the main gist of the article was related to older versions of PS and LR. I have a Creative Cloud account and am up to date. What the article says is that Catalina is a 64 Bit program and programs running at 32 bits or less will either not work or will have problems. So if you have an older version of PS or LR don't upgrade. I was also worried about my Quicken program, but articles I read said no problem if you are up to date on it. Sure enough, it worked perfectly. Just google for articles on Catalina and whatever program you are worried about i.e. Photoshop. there are several new articles that should pop up. Good advise though is to wait a week or two and see what comes up. I did like the ability to use my ipad as a second screen. Still trying out how to use it that way.

I prefer to stay current with my OS & Software - have never had a major issue upgrading.

OK. Hope this link works. It is an item from Adobe website.

https://helpx.adobe.com/lightroom-cc/kb/macos-catalina-compatibility.html

It is about incompatibility issues.

I would not upgrade to Catalina until you check all of your applications to see if they are 64 bit versus 32 bit. 32 bit will not work in Catalina and this may cause you more problems with your normal use of your Mac. This is a major 'upgrade' in OSX and I would wait even if you confirmed 64 bit compatibility.
I doubt Mojave's the cause of your problems with CR3 (I do not use CR3). Continue to try and work this out.

jbk224, I think you will find 32 bit apps run on 64 bit Macs... I have been doing so for several years. Apple wants to get rid of outdated apps to make sure everything that runs on the Mac is properly optimized and isn't an unnecessary drain on system resources. The 64 bit apps of course are faster and use less processor, etc.

Catalina will not work wit 32 bit. It is strictly a 64 bit operating system. I have several programs that are 32 bit and will not work with Catalina. I've contacted the software companies and each have told me they are working on a 64 bit upgrade.

I have checked the new Apple OS, Catalina, for MACs and found that it is not compatible with LR CC and other Adobe products. There are also other bugs that need fixing. Check the web site The Verge for detailed information. As with any new OSs it is prudent to wait a couple of weeks before upgrading. I still use LR v.6.14 - the last version of LR 6 for MACs which is 64 bit but I don't know if it will work on Catalina.. Catalina also has the problem of properly bringing iTunes to the new iMusic. I am sure there will be other issues popping up so tread carefully. Once you upgrade you cannot go back to the previous OS.

I installed Catalina on iMac and MacBook Air. No issues (yet) except with Photos:
-File name/Titles are not displayed underneath the thumbnail as they used to.
-Still not fixed: ISO value of a Canon CR3 file is not shown.
-This new display by days/months I find useless.

Upgraded and found Catalina to be HORRIBLE! Install was not a problem, but practical use is on a par with the Ford Edsel and New Coke.

If that is your experience then you should revert to the older OS that you like.

I have been running it for several months, it started a little rough but smoothed out as the newer versions came out. It is fine. I like it.

It won’t run 32 bit programs so be sure to check to see and see if any of your favorite programs are 32 bit:
-
1. Click the Apple icon in the top left corner of your screen.
2. Select About This Mac.
3. Click System Report.
4. Scroll down to the Software section and click Applications.

NOTE: Do this BEFORE upgrading to Catalina.

Interesting, I have a really large ITunes library that converted into the new Music app. It took all night to get all the migration over including album artwork, but the next morning all my digital music was there, searchable and playable.

Migration happened in the background.

Happily running on Catalina.

Even for some 64 bit programs there are issues. Check your favorite programs on Google to find out if they work on Catalina before updating. I am waiting for the first bug fix before updating.

Received this email today from Red River paper:

October 10, 2019.

Statement on OSX 10.15 Catalina

Red River Paper has received a number of complaints that after updating to Catalina, some aspects of the print process no longer work. This is fairly common with each new version of OSX. Given that "printing season" is upon us, Red River Paper recommends you do not update to 10.15 Catalina at this time. New operating systems take between 3-6 months before they are fully vetted and free of major bugs. If you value your ability to print or it is critical to your business, do not update.

the new Catalina set will block Aperture and you must go back to the old set up to use it.

my main concern is an extensive web page I developed several years ago in iWeb that I will no longer be able to update if I use Catalina.
