I would like to know how I can go about fixing the highlights in this photo of the Hotel Coronado in San Diego. Can anyone help me? Thanks!
Was it shot in raw? If so, I'm sure you will get a better final version than what you posted. I doubt if you can get it all back, but the highlight and shadow detail will be better.
What program do you have to work with?
Can you repost and check "save original" so others can download and work with it?
Interesting building.
I did shoot it in Raw - but never worked with it before. I use PS Elements 9. Where would I start to get the highlights under control?
Here it is reposted -- I clicked Save Original. If anyone can do this, I would appeciate it so I can share it with my friend. Thanks!
Is thia any better, I used Arcsoft Photo Studio and just reduced highlights.

Here is a quick and dirty LAB Selective Burn in CS6. Using the Lightness layer, you can selectively tone down or brighten as desired.

Hi katymom, I did what I could. If you like it let me know and I'll tell you what I did.
sorry just had a look at it posted and doesn't look much better.
My Effort
When I download the picture, it's only 600x400 and a mere 86KB. That doesn't give one a lot to work with.
If you have the original large JPG or the RAW file from which you can create a huge JPG, there's a lot you can do with that picture.
How's this? (Cycled through Windows Live Photo three times, backing off "hightlights" in every evolution.)
Hi Boots,
Don't know about anybody else but I think ytou did real good. Well done you.

Just had to try, too. Window Live Photo, cycled 6 times with a tad of brightness and contrast. Sharpened and reduced noise, which may not have been necessary.
Maybe over sharpened?
Much better! Thanks so much!
Boots, that looks so much better! Will be proud to share this! Thanks!
russelray, thanks so much! I didn't realize the size when I attached it. This looks so much better!
I focus, I appreciate the effort! So much to learn about post processing.
Thanks so much! Appreciate it!
