I want to make it clear that I am by no means a computer expert, but my 8-10 year old 8 GB HP Pavillion has really slowed down recently and a cooling fan keeps coming on when doing as little as surfing. And some parts, such as the graphics card, are no longer supported. So, instead of going to the Big Blue store, I went to a local computer firm and am having one custom built for me that hopefully will last me as long as needed. The computer will contain;
- an Intel i7 CPU
- 16 GB RAM (can be increased if needed)
- 500 GB SSD (I keep my image files on a 2T external hard drive)
- GeForce GTX1050 Ti graphics card, 4GB
- CD/DVD reader/recorder
- Windows 10 home premium
- At least two #3 USB ports and several #2 ports, and all the normal accessories and connections.

They will transfer the contents of my current computer and destroy the old one if I want.

I am perfectly satisfied with my fairly old 24" Samsung monitor so will continue with it for now. I'm using PS CC2019, Bridge, ACR, and Zerene on a regular basis. It was a little pricey so hope I've not made any major mistakes here.

The new computer sounds like a work horse. As for the old one, you might wish to donate it to a local high school.
As for some Hogger comments, don't pay them any mind.

I think that is the best option - have it custom built by a local, reliable PC shop. When I decide to scrap my current PC and get a new one, my local shop will build it for me.
I think your configuration will last quite a while. Good luck and enjoy.

Isn't it a bit late to worry, not that you're ordered this equipment? And, I'm not sure why you posted this; bragging rights? There is no question involved and no education needed and you've already ordered what you wanted. Sorry, I don't want to sound mean, but we just get so many of these inane comments on this site.

Why are people so nasty on here at times? He said he was no computer expert so maybe he was looking for some reassurance that his new machine was adequate and would do what was needed to do for awhile? Man, bragging rights? When I read comments like that i wish you guys would just go quietly into that good night! No wonder our kids have issues on social media! Adults on a photo site aren't even civil.

What else do they have? They are lonely sad people and want to drag every one down to their depths. They are not very nice people.

I feel your reply was not only uncalled for, but it wreaked of sarcasm. UHH is a photography forum. Computers are essential. His post is certainly related to photography. You might have passed it by. The title was clearly descriptive of the post. Maybe consider apologizing to jackm1943?

I don't see a parallel. The post on subscription services was informative; it surprised me that sneakers could be bought on subscription.

Very close to the PC I may have built by a local company, should I decide on replacing my Sony A7III with a Sony A7RIV. I use a Samsung 55" UHDTV as a monitor and will be sticking with that.

And your "inane comments" should go to the top of the list. Your post was totally uncalled for.

Go ahead and upgrade memory to 32gb while they are transferring files for you. Understand that you cannot transfer your programs to the new system. Only your data files. Programs have to be installed in order to work correctly.

A simple, What are you trying to find out, or something similar would have been just as effective without the vitriol.

I would agree with the comment to go ahead and install 32GB. I have 16 and some programs seem a little slow under some circumstances. Unfortunately my MacBook Pro cannot be upgraded.

You think those high school kids value your old computers? They prefer computer that is newer and faster than the one you just bought. Kids they are into the greatest and the latest.
I never donate or destroy my old computers. I gave them away where they were truly appreciated. The company I used to work for had a die cutting machine that was controlled by an 80286 PC running DOS 3.3. The PC broke and they couldn't make it work with any computer they bought. I gave them my old 386 PC and reinstall all their software via floppy disks. It worked.
They gave me 2 laptops for that.
