I want to make it clear that I am by no means a computer expert, but my 8-10 year old 8 GB HP Pavillion has really slowed down recently and a cooling fan keeps coming on when doing as little as surfing. And some parts, such as the graphics card, are no longer supported. So, instead of going to the Big Blue store, I went to a local computer firm and am having one custom built for me that hopefully will last me as long as needed. The computer will contain;
- an Intel i7 CPU
- 16 GB RAM (can be increased if needed)
- 500 GB SSD (I keep my image files on a 2T external hard drive)
- GeForce GTX1050 Ti graphics card, 4GB
- CD/DVD reader/recorder
- Windows 10 home premium
- At least two #3 USB ports and several #2 ports, and all the normal accessories and connections.
They will transfer the contents of my current computer and destroy the old one if I want.
I am perfectly satisfied with my fairly old 24" Samsung monitor so will continue with it for now. I'm using PS CC2019, Bridge, ACR, and Zerene on a regular basis. It was a little pricey so hope I've not made any major mistakes here.
Isn't it a bit late to worry, not that you're ordered this equipment? And, I'm not sure why you posted this; bragging rights? There is no question involved and no education needed and you've already ordered what you wanted. Sorry, I don't want to sound mean, but we just get so many of these inane comments on this site.

Yeah, maybe a little like your recent post re subscription services?
Sounds good. My last one, I went to a computer store, bought a bunch of parts, and assembled it myself.
Not cheap.
And the worst part is I had to do all the installs myself. That alone would be worthwhile to pay someone.
Enjoy your new puter.

I usually tell people to go to techbargains... In most cases cheaper to buy then build now. (Especially if there is a sale!)

Why are people so nasty on here at times? He said he was no computer expert so maybe he was looking for some reassurance that his new machine was adequate and would do what was needed to do for awhile? Man, bragging rights? When I read comments like that i wish you guys would just go quietly into that good night! No wonder our kids have issues on social media! Adults on a photo site aren't even civil.

I couldn't agree more. If UHH is for asking, learning and giving and receiving feedback about photography in all of its aspects, why the nasty, patronizing and dismissive tone?

I don't see a parallel. The post on subscription services was informative; it surprised me that sneakers could be bought on subscription.

Maybe because they are just miserable sob's that sit around all day complaining about everything and make the people in their own lives as miserable as themselves! Thanks for noticing too!
I've been looking to upgrade my laptop. Shopping all the different sites can get confusing and finding the exact match for what I've decide I need (want) is difficult to say the least.
I like your solution and my stop by one of the little computer shops and see what they can do for me.
Thanks for sharing.
