Be that as it may, what amazes me about this debate, is Hunting??
Who goes hunting? For what, how often & what do they do with the victim? Eat it? Just kill it for the fun??
It strikes me that they haven't developed much past the Wild West days, or further back to just out of the trees. Is the hunting argument a cover for the real reason? Self defence or protecting your property?
Do these gun crazies really want to kill a person who just might be very hungry & destitute enough to want to break in for food.
It really looks like Wild West mentality to want a gun. But it says a lot about them that installs a twit like trump. Your country is going backwards.

An assault weapon is anything that someone uses to assault another person. Could be anything from a pocket knife, baseball bat, nun chucks, gun of any kind, tire iron, lug wrench, automobile and many other things. They are all around us and the object itself usually is a tool made for a certain purpose. That tool doesn't do anything by itself. It takes a person to use it. Most people use it as it was intended to be used. A few others use it for harm to one or more other persons.

When are we going to refer to these situations referencing the problem person and not the object they used to cause havoc? When are we going to look at the objects that cause the most deaths and go after the solution to that problem first. THAT WOULD MEAN THAT WE NEED TO START REMOVING CARS FROM OUR ROADS AND MAYBE OUTLAWING THEIR OWNERSHIP.

First, hunting is a right to survive which predates our Constitution by thousands of years. Man is an omnivore, not a vegetarian. Animal protein is essential for development of the human brain. Animals are not victims; you're trying to define the argument into proving a negative. Animals in the wild always have the advantage. They know their territory far better than the hunter, and the odds of bagging your game is less than 50%, since animals sense you far faster than you sense them.

Even trophy hunters don't waste the meat. In Africa, Alaska, Northern Canada, etc., the meat from the animal is processed and donated to the locals. Animals, unless poached, are not wasted; even bones and hides are used.

Yes, there are fewer hunters for any number of reasons, but those who do enjoy a right, not a privilege, and its a right for which the hunters pay in terms of licenses, taxes, and user fees which non-hunters don't pay a dime. Since you don't hunt, you don't get to have a say.

Legal hunting is what has kept any number of species from going extinct. Deer, elk, moose, bear, etc., all have strict limits on the number of animals which can be hunted per hunting season. Because of illegal hunting in the early 20th century, huge numbers of wildlife nearly went extinct, but legislation sponsored by hunters actually saved entire species. And, hunters have forced legislatures to pass laws to keep idiots from interfering with a legal act, and probably saved their stupid lives.

Since you're an Australian, you have no concept of freedom as we do in America, and you've allowed your government to run roughshod over your individual rights.

First. Hunting has nothing to do with assault weapons (even if some people use them for hunting). My opinion is that hunting for food is a valid reason. but once the rifle comes to your shoulder, it's nothing more than target shooting. But trophy hunting is an excuse for saying my dick is bigger than yours. Other than house cats Man is the only creature that hunts for trophy. But thats my opinion
