Sanon? Canony? Cany? Cony. Hmmm... Now that CaNikon is a historical footnote, what shall we use?
I just saw something intended as a generic photographer's tool that had two brand labels, Canon and Nikon. It must have been pre-2018 (or the creator's mindset was).
Now that Cony has usurped from Nikon the number two spot, do we need a different amalgamation to refer to the top two? And should we act now, with Sony at number two overall behind Canon (Cony), or should we wait another year for Sony to take the top spot and give Sony first bill (Sanon)?
On second thought, grouping Canon with Sony feels rather silly. It made sense to group the Canon and Nikon dinosaurs together, what with each copying and trying to either keep pace with or outdo each other for decades. But it just doesn't feel right to group either with Sony.
Troll alert, and not even witty.
At my age eighty three, I am not gone to worry either way. I look at this way, the Canon lens and accessories should get more affordable so I will benefit and enjoy what I have. I do not plan on changing systems, not because one is better but what is affordable and having to learn a new system. So I will keep on chucking with my old clunkers and let the younger ones worry about the future.
I've come to the conclusion that there was a time that this may have mattered, but not anymore. The truth is that the the Digital Still Camera market has matured, at least essentially so. The truth is also that potential financial returns are not going to continue to support big research and development in this market.
Name one meaningful function that you would want but don't have (or could have from some existing model), and would be willing to pay for. Usable resolution certainly doesn't need to increase any more...maybe additional dynamic range would be beneficial, but that is an evolutionary change, not revolutionary. Maybe it would be nice to be able to switch to one or more IR modes, but I doubt that enough people would ever care about that to cause it to happen.
That's probably somewhere between enough and too much said about this.

All this silly talk about grouping them together is totally crap, there is absolutely no reason to do that and it makes no sense whatsoever!
Chris T, did you change your user name?
I'll stick with the full name thank you.
I don't do cutsie names.

Now we need another "new amalgamation" of usernames. Chris Desert? Gecko T?
I'm not sure if the original post was intended to be tongue in cheek or serious, but either way I doubt it deserved the level of abuse the OP got for posting it. I think the point could have been made without the insults and condescension.

Ah !! - there is always some naysayer who wants to spoil the party. I'm sure the OP is expecting some pot shots. Don't take things so seriously. Name calling has been a National past time for the last two and half years.
Does it really matter which company is number one?
Looks like someone has spent way too much time out in the desert sun...
