Sanon? Canony? Cany? Cony. Hmmm... Now that CaNikon is a historical footnote, what shall we use?

All this silly talk about grouping them together is totally crap, there is absolutely no reason to do that and it makes no sense whatsoever!
Maybe with the big down turn throughout the industry they are secretly planning a mass merger and asked the OP to help them find a name for the new company.
You never know!

I'm not sure if the original post was intended to be tongue in cheek or serious, but either way I doubt it deserved the level of abuse the OP got for posting it. I think the point could have been made without the insults and condescension.
Thank you. Yes, very tongue in cheek, but also trolling a bit I suppose. But the reaction has been rather subdued. I've been around long enough to know how nasty some hoggers can get, and I was here for the creation of the attic to where some threads are banished because of them.
I was making a point as well. When thinking about still-camera leaders, we erroneously continue to regard Canon and Nikon (Nikon and Canon 30 years ago), and many refer to them as CaNikon. Now with Sony's surge, what will it take to dispel this outdated notion?
Come to think of it, with Panasonic's S1 and S1R, they've shown the ability to do what CaNikon thus far can't seem to manage: produce a decent full frame mirrorless camera. Perhaps we should consider PanaSony. Or SonySonic.

Well, maybe. But since nothing in the Desert Gecko's opening statement is actually true, with the possible exception of what he claims he saw,
WHY is this topic in the MPD section? I do not understand why this whole thing is not catapulted over to the Chit-Chat section. Over there, the Topic's creator could not possibly be considered a troll.

Which parts are not true? That surging Sony has taken the number two spot
world-widefrom Nikon? That 30 years ago Nikon held the top spot, or that Canon and Nikon are very similar in matching one another's offerings? The only troll here is someone embarrassing himself by denying facts.

Why do you say that neither Canon or Nikon have managed to produce a decent full frame MILC?! Sure they have. Maybe it's your opinion they have not but there are a whole lot of people who will disagree with you.

Gee, thanks, DG! & here I thought I was kind of defending you. Well, I guess I just got me so mixed up by your fictitious words, I got blinded to the coherent phrases you wrote in between. Yep, that’s what happens when one writes garbage rhetoric and expects others to think it smells like roses.
Oh, and this whole thread
still belongs in the Chit-Chat section.

Then as long as they don't make fifty models, it should be easy to select a camera!

Those are not current, but seven-month-old figures. Sony passed Nikon this year in both number of units and value of goods sold in the ILC market, increasing to 24% of the market.
I read the figures elsewhere previously, but I don't recall where. A quick search found this:
