They often not printed the way you liked it so you would have to pay them to reprint all the pictures that were worth keeping.

Some processors would print only those images which they thought were 'usable'; with modern scanners & gimp, I was able to rescue a few that they didn't bother with.

White Pass Washington St. It was one of those days when everything was perfect, I took a whole 36 exp roll of film and later when I opened the film back I discovered that The film didn't catch and the film didn't advance. Fifty five years I still regret what I did that day. Some things always stick in your memory bank.

I don't recall ever having to wait two weeks for processing. More like 1-3 days. If I dropped film off at a location with on-site processing, then 1-2 hours was the typical waiting time.

Yeah, me too. Like at the pharmacy.
Except when the previous shift minion tried to process slide film- and I got a few rolls of green negatives.
Except when the previous manager got cheap, and and newbie processed the film in old dirty chemicals.
Except when the person with my same last name was given my pictures. Again.

And then there were those that didn't notice the rewind crank wasn't turning when they advanced the film, then rewound the film also not noticing that the "drag" was less than usual. Naturally there weren't any pictures and they would go off the deep end blaming me and Kodak (or the independent processor).
Since there weren't any pictures there wasn't any charge for that but there was still the film development charge. Which I usually wound up eating.

If I remember correctly I did have to wait close to 2 weeks in the mid 70's before the 1hour photo lab became available. However, I never shot a ton of pictures. The most I had was 10 rolls of 36 and that was for a wedding.
When the 1hour lab became available I almost always had to have them reprint my keeper shots. They never printed it the way I want. That is why I setup my own color darkroom.

I made that mistake once. I had a summer internship in New Mexico and took myself off on adventure each weekend. On the last weekend, with no chance to redo the trip, I realized I had a problem when I reached exposure #40 on a 36 exposure roll. I kind of laughed - my Dad had the same thing happen on a vacation eleven years before.

Now that's funny! And when we got them we took one look at them and they ended up in a drawer somewhere. At least now they may end up on some social media site where people actually see them.
