Or your didn't load the film correctly and missed a few pictures until you realized it.
Lost more than a few good pictures.

Yes like 24 or 36... or multiples thereof.
SLRs were great because with an SLR you could not shoot with the lens cap on!

I took 10 rolls of 36 before I saw what I got at the most. I shot the wedding at that time. Rarely I shot more than a couple rolls before I got the pictures back.
I don't recall ever having to wait two weeks for processing. More like 1-3 days. If I dropped film off at a location with on-site processing, then 1-2 hours was the typical waiting time.
Or you only rolled it partway and got an unintentional double exposure. I did that once and got a giant cat overlaid over whatever I was shooting at the time. Just like the time I was swinging on my swing bar, slipped and caught myself by my ankles. I tried many times to repeat those happy accidents but only ended up wasting film, or landing in my head.
