Waiting time was up to me. I did all of my own processing. Most often same day/night.

Lost more shots than I care to think about by not loading the film correctly on the take up spool. I a better now, I remember to put the SD card in the camera.

Now that's funny! And when we got them we took one look at them and they ended up in a drawer somewhere. At least now they may end up on some social media site where people actually see them.

Built a basement darkroom in 1972. My eldest daughter learned to develop film and print at age 8, in 1982, and still has the equipment. Saw a Durst M604 enlarger labeled "antique" in Costa Rica national museum. Mine was an M600. Sigh.

Digital cameras replaced film cameras in part because the digital camera gave immediate feedback for each shot and if necessary allowed the photographer to adjust settings for a better result at the time of shooting.

Others have noted in addition that this instant feedback made for a shorter learning period for the photographer.

Contrarians and diehard film photographers invariably omit these crucial improvements of digital over film photography.

Rant cut short.

I don't recall ever having to wait two weeks for processing. More like 1-3 days. If I dropped film off at a location with on-site processing, then 1-2 hours was the typical waiting time.
Those of us who shot Kodachrome had to wait at little longer - especially in later years.

But then there was the excitement of finding them in your mailbox and ripping the envelope open and eyeing every print before getting back to your house. Just like Christmas!

and between mailing them out and receiving them, you could sing "Some day my prints will come".

PhotoMat stores set up in shopping center parking lots.
Wait a week for disappointing images. Then try again.

Personally I don't miss the film days, I am sure that those days taught a lot of people how to become better photographers but judging from the many images that I see posted to photography sites amateur photography has come a long way since the introduction of digital cameras.
