The moral of this story should be that you were lucky, TWICE. Want to try for three? Why didn't you learn your lesson the first time. No warranty covers this. The Nikon D810 is not a point and shoot and is not inexpensive to replace. You must have deep pockets. Were you that slow in school too to learn a lesson.
I always carry a trash bag in my back pocket for rain. Even though Nikon, Sony, and Canon professional gear is advertised as weather resistant, their is a limit. When I worked in a camera store we had a lot of customers like you, they are everywhere. Really man, are you really that slow.

The next time you may not be so lucky. Get a rain sleeve or large ziplock bag for the rain and a cloth to dry the camera.

Good to know. I always carry a couple of those shower caps from hotels. Small and compact they fit in a pocket easily and camera bags. If the camera is on a tripod the elastic band helps keep it snug over the camera. They work great!

so whats the question ?? Clearly it was not as wet as you thought. Its not a cat so don't try to test its life too often in fact sell it now while its working before the internal corrosion sets in ...

This tells me to NEVER buy anything from Pistnbroke.

Can't set em out to dry here in Florida, humidity is stinkin wet, and so is the heat. If I have any gear out in the high heat and humidity, when i come in from shooting, I pull the card and set the camera and lens on one of the A\C vents in spare bedroom and leave it there for a few hours. The dehumidified cold air (house humidity is never above 36% tops, even during days of rain and heavy humidity outside) is quite good at drying out any moisture, and would also inhibit/prevent any fungus growth, then the stuff get's a good dose of UV-C light for good measure. All of my R/C gear, transmitters/receivers/video gear/camera gear/radio gear gets same treatment. This has worked well for me for years. If I dropped one in the water, or was in heavy rain, I would go with the rice, or silica gell packs first, then the a/c treatment. Florida is a wet place!!!! My cameras are a mixed bag of weather sealed and not weather sealed, most of my lenses, not.

DEAR LARRY:

Almost immediately I have to ask why you don't carry a large ziplock bag in you gear. Secondly, if you think steam-cleaning your camera is a Good Idea , I am not a fan of that scenario either. You have been exceedingly fortunate in my opinion and thanks for the tips on all weather camera events but I will not be following your lead sir.

Good luck.

P.S. sooner or later you'll buying that new "Z-model" or D850 that you secretly want and I just hope that you treat those babies better than you current edition.

As rugged and well designed as they are, most cameras are vulnerable to “wet.” I’m almost paranoid about any of mine. And it can happen quick, a few years ago, my G16 was quietly in my lap as a schnapps hostess in Russia was handing out samples. A few drops fell from a basket she was carrying and couldn’t have hit the lens any better if she had aimed. $200 to get my camera back from Canon, a relatively cheap repair. I trust no one, especially myself. Hopefully, you, the OP, has learned a valuable lesson (or not?).

Yesterday I got caught in a rain storm without any rain gear, The D810 and 24~120mm lens got really soaked. The camera quit working while the lens works correctly. My car sets in full sun on the driveway, so I set the camera on the passengers seat without the front cap and the battery door open. I just went out to check. The stirring wheel was hot to touch and camera was also. Brought the camera inside, installed the battery and the camera works as advertised. This has happened to me twice and each time I opened the camera and left it to dry out and this has worked twice now.

A better drying procedure is to: first make sure the camera is turned off, put the camera in a plastic food storage container or equivalent with a couple of cups of uncooked rice, leave it for a few days. The rice acts as a dessicant and removes the water without heating. You can actually buy silica gel, a better dessicant, online but few of us would have it on hand for such an emergency. Note: if water gets inside the camera on any of the exposed circuits and you turn the camera on, it will be toast. While the electronics in cameras and other solid state devices are pretty robust excess heat can and will damage them or at least shorten their lifespan.

You let that happen twice? You need to get some plastic bags and a raincoat!

Larry, I'd think of solving this issue before the fact instead of after your camera gets soaked.

I had good luck with a phone that went into a pool a few years ago. My daughter got pushed into a pool by a friend and she had her phone in a front pocket. I put it in a peanut butter jar on a bed of desiccant. The lab at the plant I work at gave me some. We left the jar in the sun for a couple of days and the phone worked like new after that. I've heard of people using rice to absorb moisture the same way.

What!!?? So in your infinite wisdom you have designated him as a person with "special needs"
What a pompous assumption. You know what happens when you make assumptions? You inherit the first three letters of the word. You wear it well.

I have a solar chargeable powered flashlight. I left it outside to charge a few wks ago - sure enough, forgot about it, heavy rain over night. Switched it on - nothing. Was gonna trash it, but thought, I’ll let it dry couple days and see what happens. Turned it on - bright as ever. Sorry me, I repeated this trick a few days later, same thing - dry out - turn on - works just fine. Glad I don’t have a solar powered Canon!

What. One of the rocket scientists here would label you as someone who has "special needs"
