Good responses on thermal environment. Mil spec for non-operational is 160F, and if you need better, there’s additional venting or cooling. Even hot desert environments will not experience this (enclosed space, sunlight, transparencies). Removing the battery is a good call.

I have been lucky until recently when I was shooting my yearly running festival with 3500 runners.
We had fog, drizzle, rain, wind etc.etc. I have a cover for my X70 camcorder it does not solve the problem.
I covered the camera with plastic a little better. But when the wind came up sometimes would blow
the rain horizontal. Like many of you I have valuable cameras like the Sony a7s II with lens. I have decided
to just not shoot in this whether. Light drizzle maybe with plastic. I see news people with covers that are
like what you would cover a bike etc. And the lens is exposed somewhat.
Honestly I would think about this on which camera. My Sony bridge RX10 III is somewhat water resistant.
Makers are very cagy about the camera's ability to survive.
It would be easier to have one of those underwater and rough handling Oly's I bought my grandaughter.

When I go to the grocery store I get some extra plastic bags from the vegetable section. They work great for keeping the camera dry when it starts to rain. There are many extra uses for them i.e. doggy poop bags, keeping hair dry, protecting other electric items, etc. The best thing is they are FREE.

Second off, a few Hoggers here can be down right rude or at least obnoxious. You wanted to share an experience. I get it. Ignore them, please.
Third, I like the plastic bag trick and will definitely use it even if I'm walking my pooch.
Fourth, I went to photograph Niagara Falls. I went to the store and picked up a RainSleeve. Not a bad investment. At least I have piece of mind.
Finally, I have visited my local pharmacist. I have asked him to save those little dessicants from pill bottles. They don't drain any residual rain water but they will adsorb some wayward moisture. (Search my previous posts under Dessicants).

We are here at this forum to share and learn and improve ourselves.

It would appear there is a hissy fit going on here. I read the beginning statement of the person who got his camera wet and then a response from someone who indicated he has "special needs" "As an educator for over 35 years I can tell you that many folks do not learn by their mistakes. It was not a judgement call. He said it himself that this was the SECOND time it has happened.
But, as a former special education teacher, I really understand him and his special needs." Was that necessary??
That somehow didn't offend you. Then the new person sorta defends the guy against that assertion that you take umbrage with.
