repealing amendments has been done, but not repealing any portion of the Bill of Rights. That has not been done. And if you read Jefferson and others you will see that the reason for the second amendment was to protect citizens from an out of control government. That can not happen if the government has automatic weapons and citizens aren't even allowed to have semiautomatic weapons.
However, the bigger issue is that liberals exaggerate and distort the actual figures of gun violence. The last year that we have accurate weapons for approximately 32,000 died in gun deaths. Of those 60 percent are suicides That leaves 12,800. Of those another 3 percent are accidental deaths. That takes it down to approximately 12,400 deaths. Of those between 60 to 80 percent are gang related shootings in inner cities. If we take the 60 percent figure to be conservative that means that leaves under 5,000. If you take the 80 percent figure for gang murders then there are under 2,500 other gun deaths in the country.
The vast majority of the gang related shootings are by people who already can't legally own guns, so banning guns will do nothing to stop those deaths. Banning guns will also not stop the suicides. People don't tend to use semiautomatic rifles for suicides, so allowing the guns that you say you are willing to continue to allow won't stop any of those deaths. That means that there are approximately 2,500 deaths per year that should even be relevant to any gun control debate, a far cry from the 32,000 and up cited by gun control advocates.
By last report following New Zealand passing their new gun control law and attempting to buy back the newly illegal guns they have only had 580 guns turned in. The law they passed in the name of public safety will do nothing to stop another crazy Australian from doing another mass shooting in New Zealand, but they have successfully made thousands of their own citizens into felons for refusing to turn in their guns.
Is that what you really want? Criminalize individuals who have been law abiding citizens, while gang members continue to use illegal guns with impunity.
repealing amendments has been done, but not repeal... (

When laws change with the times, it's up to citizens to stay on top of those changes.
If a citizen choices not to turn in their guns once they've been outlawed, then they're left to suffer the consequences of their choices. Becoming a felon is a choice they'll have to live with.
Getting outlawed guns off the streets and out of the hands of those who shouldn't have them will take some time, but if the laws have changed, that's what will have to happen.
Prohibition turned a lot of people into criminals, and those who brewed anything, including moonshine often had run-ins with the law back in those days.
