Actually, Panasonic and Olympus (started winter 2008 and spring 2009) are the mirrorless leaders with Sony making the sensors for them. I suspect that is why Sony went mirrorless so early; they were able to read the "writing on the wall".

I would wait a couple of years before buying a mirror less camera. Here's why. First, like any new product on the market, be it electronic gadgets, cars, or appliances, no matter how much R&D goes into it before marketing there are going to be bug. Wait until the bugs get worked out and then you'll be likely to have a better product. Secondly, The very high prices that these new cameras cost, you're paying for R&D and promotion. When those costs are taken care of the prices will drop. Case in point flat screen televisions. That cost about half as much today as they did when they first hit the market.

I would suggest that camera companies like Olympus, Panasonic and Fuji are well out of the teething time. No, I would not buy a mirrorless Nikon or Canon right now, but I think that aside from Olympus menus, the mfolks are ahead of the pack, and Fuji is a remarkable company. And Sony's getting there.

Burkphoto is correct. The X-T3 is smaller that FF and will save you some weight. The biggest savings would come from going to 4/3rds. Both Olympus and Panasonic are available, but since you indicated you will be doing video, Bill's suggestion for Panasonic's G85 is appropriate (or GH5). Both Olympus and Panasonic can do video, but Panasonic does it just about better than anyone else. Just ask Bill at Burkphoto since he shoots video for his living.

Fuji outsells Sony as well as Canon and Nikon in Japan I read.
So it can't be too bad.
Considering that the best photographers are in Japan, that's a notable point. Buy/Use what the Japanese use first.

Save some money and start out with either the Olympus OMD E-M5 markii which features great weather sealing, and in camera image stabilization, or the older Sony A6300 which has a weather sealed body, stronger mount and better EVF than the A6000 and Sony's lenses are mostly image stabilized. Both of these models are older and significant savings can be had, yet the image quality is top of the line on both.

Consider the Sony A7 II. It is the camera deal of the year! 2 years in a row. For under a Grand, you get a Full Frame Mirrorless Camera and 24-70mm lens.
Umh, did this deal as you wrote actually
change, ggenova? I ask because I bought it from Adorama last year for $998, which included the a7 mk II, a
28-70 mm lens, and a host of useful little goodies.
Specifically, I'm referring to the range of focal lengths of the provided lens. Did you purchase this deal? Was it actually with a 24-70 mm lens provided?
The only Sony E-mt Full Frame 24-70 mm zoom lenses I found each list for $2,098: the Sony FE 24-70mm F4 ZA OSS Carl Zeiss Vario Tessar T* that debuted in 2013, at
https://www.dpreview.com/products/sony/lenses/sony_24-70_2p8_za_ssm_ii/buy and the Sony FE 24-70mm F2.8 GM that debuted in 2016, at
https://www.dpreview.com/products/sony/lenses/sony_fe_24-70_2p8_gm But the one that came in my kit, the Sony FE 28-70mm F3.5-5.6 OSS, has a list price of $398, as seen at
https://www.dpreview.com/products/sony/lenses/sony_fe_28-70_3p5-5p6 No, I'm not trying to be coy and merely point out a suspected typographical error. I am engaging in wishful thinking and wonder if it could possibly be true.

It is a great deal. But the lens offered is not the zeiss 24 70mm which is more then a grand
it is the 28 70mm which is a mediocre kind of kit lens. Still a great deal.
Oops, sorry about that, Tomcat. I missed your post despite my best attempt to skim through this ever-growing thread before I posted my response. Like I explained to another Hog, there are bound to be redundancies.
"Umh, did this deal as you wrote actually change"? No, it is still listed under $1,000.

I love my X-T3, and carry it everywhere. You can't go wrong.
This is not a recommendation just my experience: Was a Canon user for many years until two years ago when we took a riverboat trip to Normandy and I took my canon 6d with several lenses. Got some great shots But was frazzled by the time we returned. Decided then that I needed some lighter gear. After much research decided on the Olympus omd1 mk2. Last year we went to Spain/Portugal for twenty four days and I carried the camera with me every day. Mostly shot with 12-40mm F2.8 lense and got some great shots but also used a 40-150mm when necessary. The menu takes some getting used to but is manageable. With the 5x ibis it's easy to get along without a tripod. Just turned 89 and am waiting to see what the mk3 will bring.
I have heard that nikon may enter the mirrorless area might want to check that out.
I have the same camera and I am pleased you are happy with yours, you have made a good move.

Definitely consider the Olympus EMD1 MkII for reasons that others have already indicated. These include:
- Solid construction and complete weather-proofing of body and lenses - an important consideration for outdoor photography;
- Compactness and light weight;
- Excellent quality lenses. The Oly PRO lenses (e.g., 40-150 mm f/2.8; 300 mm f/4) are among the best and sharpest on the market;
- Dual image stabilization (for some lenses), making it much easier to get good shots, e.g., in low light situations;
- Many (some say too many, but I don't think so) options to customize camera based on your needs and usage;
- First class, responsive after sale customer/repair service;
- And more.....
of those 3 cameras did anyone stand out to you
