Extending a Pentax Warranty ...

Ricoh called me at 9:50 this morning, waking me up. (I retired at 5am as I normally do.) They indicated my warranty on my Pentax product, had expired, and wanted to know, if I wished to extend the warranty coverage. It was a recording. At the end of it, the lady indicated, if I wanted to speak to a "Warranty Specialist" - I should press "1" … the only problem is - the phone I keep next to my bed, is an early Trimline
- which has NO buttons. My immediate response "this phone has NO buttons" … at which, it hung up!!! So, now what? … Incidentally, my K-50 suffered some internal damage, when the Adorama Slinger bag I keep it in, rolled off the cart, near the door - it now blinks, incessantly - so, I do need it looked at. But - how?
Just saved yourself some money with a worthless warranty. These people are not from Ricoh. They sell you extended warranty on just about anything.

They identified themselves as Ricoh, on the tape, Bebu. So, if NOT Ricoh, who on earth - WOULD they be?

If you have ever received an email claiming to come from yourself you can see that anyone can claim to be anyone, email or phone. Phone scams work because people are too ready to believe the con.
IF you really think it was legitimate, call Ricoh Warranty Department at a publicly verifiable phone number and tell them you want to take them up on the offer. If it is real, I'm sure they would be more than happy to sign you up.

Do you HAVE such a number, ALX?
From my past experiences - it'd seem Ricoh is only interested in supporting its OWN products, NOT Pentax!

Then you should have been suspicious from the start as to why Ricoh was calling you in the first place.
As for a specific number, you would have to research that for yourself. I merely wanted to point out that you should always call a VERIFIED number since any number used in a phone call or email is only as legitimate as the original message. If the original is a scam, the number is part of it.

There wasn't any number used in the pitch, ALX. The caller referred to me a rep, by saying - PRESS ONE.
Since I have no buttons on that phone, the call ended ...

In this day and age, I make it a habit to end any unsolicited call.

It was a fairly quick call, ALX, and the pitch was fast - didn't have time …
Also, I was still half-asleep … only went to bed at 5am, and the call came at 9:50am …
Besides, having dropped my K-50, last year, I was interested in what she had to say …

I think Ricoh owns Pentax. Maybe that is why the call came from Ricoh?

Yes, that IS true, YNY … no argument, there.
I have a fairly new Pentax K-50. I don't OWN any Ricoh products.
Pentax was never mentioned in the call - only Ricoh.
That was my point, you see? Ricoh doesn't really care about Pentax.
The call indicated my RICOH product's warranty had expired - no mention of Pentax, whatsoever!

I don't need to, Richard - as I KNOW what I wrote, originally …
It was a way to connect Ricoh and Pentax - for those, who don't seem to realize, they are now one company.
The lady never mentioned Pentax … the entire call was from Ricoh, and ABOUT Ricoh …
