You could add a third use, taking a paper print and cutting it to fit a smaller frame. That would be cropping also.

'Crop' itself has only one use, to make smaller. Whatever it's reference.

That's more like - clipping - Bill …

You make a good point, though - and that is that CROP - has a demeaning connotation ..

Which is - yet, ANOTHER reason … why I'd like to see a new name (or Acronym) preferably - a name, tho'.

I never look at them.

Just got the idea, from reading another post - the addition of an Emoji in a comment implies one's joking!!

I don't know about you guys - but, I tend to use one or the other on virtually EVERY comment I make!

I'd hate to think - everyone thinks I'm joking, all the time, if I just add one to provide some lightness, etc.

Would really like to hear back from as many folks as I can. What are your feelings on this?

BTW - latest count shows there to be 26 - of which, only a couple - underline one might be teasing.

The others are for fun - just to lighten up comments. But some, have another take. What do YOU think?

Too many times, people have though I was being serious when I was obviously kidding. Now I use a smiley when I'm not being serious. Even then, people sometimes don't get it.

It's not the real thing. It's just a smaller version of a real camera. Nonsense, of course. "Crop" cameras are fine.

I personally think emoji's in general are the dumbest thing to hit the tech world - ever!

I don't consider it demeaning. It's just a definition that it is smaller than a 24x36 sensor. So what?

Words can say precisely what the intent is, without going into interpretation or the intent stuff behind an emoji. Just as camera settings are precise for a reason, so too can be our communication. Keep it simple, clear and straightforward.

People use them because they add added emotion and are "neat".

I think that the use of emojis is infantile.

Emoji use for me is to make sure people know the context my comment is coming from. Hard to tell sarcasm in the written word. But if I type "yeah, that's great " you understand I am NOT meaning that I like the situation. Emoji's are supposed to represent the emotion that can't always be gleaned from the written word. I only use them to make sure my audience understands my words in context.

Well, speaking only for myself and my preferences, I rarely use them. I prefer to let my actual words set the 'mood' or be appropriate to aptly describe the situation. Each to his own. But I am guilty occasionally of 'smiling' like this:o)
God Bless,
Joe

Because it carries with it, the connotation a Crop Camera is lesser than a "REAL" FF camera …

I'd like to see something other than "Crop" - which also applies to MFT cameras, don't forget …

And, APS-C - is inaccurate, as it applies to a film system, long since discontinued … (late 80s-early 90s)

I dunno what we need to call them, but, we most certainly need SOMETHING NEW, Bill ….
